Maine Capitol Police screener Craig Donahue was returning from his lunch break when he heard a "loud thud" and the sound of metal rolling.
The cylinder was about 7 inches by 5 inches with grease all over it...

Two other people saw the object fall around 12:30 p.m. near the capitol building in Augusta, according to a Maine Department of Public Safety news release. No injuries were reported.
The Maine Department of Public Safety said in a news release that the FAA is "attempting to locate the source of the part which is likely from a large airliner on an international route."
In a statement to CNN on Tuesday morning, an FAA spokesperson said, "The FAA is aware of the report and is investigating."

Well, at least the plane will be faster now that it’s lighter. :)
I guess planes in Maine are related to rain in Spain.
I didn’t see your post, before I posted. 😋
I know this is from CNN, but it took four people to write a simple story like this?
and to write the title, only it took four people
Stuff falls off planes all the time. I even had a side window blow out and it landed on a Rollercoaster ride in Carowinds Amusement park. Nobody was hurt. It’s a big pretty much empty countryside except for the takeoffs and landings.
Maybe he was emotionally attached to it. Add MO (metallic object) to the LGBT alphabet soup...LGBTABCDEFG...MO

Just monitor the crash reports.

Drum roll…. Well done!
Second that. Very creative.
And still screw it up (title).
Guess there are no editors. Semiliterates just print whatever.
C’mon guys, maybe you need a refresher course!
It’s all ball bearings nowadays.
Main landing gear bearing?
It might be an adapter for a tapered wheel bearing press.
One of my favorite routine weekly message traffic was titled
“THINGS THAT FELL FROM AIRCRAFT”.
Which is more important, timing or location?
No need to argue in this case.
This large metal object — “which is likely from a large airliner on an international route” — fell near the capitol building in Augusta.
In August.
Right! The way it’s written, it sounds like the guy just left his house and missed the FedEx delivery guy.
That chunk looks a bit more important to flying than a bag of peanuts.
I would agree that this might be from the landing gear assembly but that whole mechanism gets seal up during flight.
