An academic writing for the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre has argued Queen Elizabeth I may have been non-binary in an essay.
In an essay on the Globe's website, trans-awareness trainer Dr Kit Heyam referred to the Virgin Queen with 'they/them' pronouns, saying: 'Elizabeth I... described themself regularly in speeches as "king", "queen" and "prince".'

Too bad Elizabeth I and Joan of Arc could not tag team and take all these queer cultural vandals.
I think to properly address the royals or if the royals addresses the public the proper English always refers to the “us” and “we.”
Like it or not, the axiomatic binary phenomenon exists, and has all down through history. Denial gains nothing but blank stares from the vast majority of people.
“Non-binary” is a purely social construct, and has no physical equivalent in the biological disciplines. There are no true human hermaphrodites, either.
Men regularly played all the women’s roles in Shakespeare’s plays...because that’s the way it was...no women allowed. Nothing to do with gay.
Academics are still working on dead white male litterature?
Who funds that anymore?

Dr Heyam is missing something. It’s possible that Queen Elizabeth I had multiple personalities. We just don’t know.
So to be on the safe side, she should be referred to as “all of them”.
I’ve liked going to the Globe to watch Shakespeare plays (Merchant of Venice and Antony and Cleopatra) while in London. While I should not be surprised that wokeness is alive and well among the people running such a place, it is still that repulsive to read stories like this.
Hopefully, ancestors of Joan of arc and the queen will Sue for defamation
Gibberish

Dr Kit Heyam. Lol. Trying to retcon wokeness onto the world of centuries ago. They would have thrown Dr Kit Heyam into a bog.
Straight out of Orwell’s 1984.
“Those who control the present, control the past and those who control the past control the future.” ― George Orwell, 1984
That’d be tough.
Elizabeth didn’t marry but she had a handful of boyfriends, one of whom she may have had a kid with. “Non-binary” - yeah, remember how Francis Bacon discussed all the different genders in “De mille generibus”......? One of his most highly-regarded works.
That would certainly undercut her as a feminist icon. This is similar to gay groups posthumously claiming anybody who wasn’t 100% proven heterosexual, but it also runs up against mid-20th century feminist thinking that shouldn’t be confined to a narrow stereotype. If women who show strength of character or willpower are nonbinary, it doesn’t do much for the movement.
Did they find new DNA evidence to prove this theory?
Seriously! “I may be a mere woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a man” is the best they can do to show QE1 was trans or non-binary?
I noticed several years ago that young people seemed to be incapable of understanding figurative language, but what will they think of next?
King Richard the Lion-Hearted and Francis Marion the Swamp Fox were transspecies! Babe Ruth was not only transsexuals but looked like Gina Lolabrigida! JFK was a pastry!
Sheesh!
