The education system has been stagnant for far too long ....

Acutally, not. The education system has been getting progressively worse for the past 30 years at least.

Abolish public education.

“the learning styles theory is the biggest myth in education.”

It’s a cope to try to explain group differences that are ultimately biological. High on copium, they are.

No matter how hard scientists have looked, they haven’t been able to find any good evidence for the learning styles theory.

Obviously these folks aren't in the 'visual learners' group.

While I agree that nothing beats grit and effort, I think the idea that people have preferred ways to learn is sound.

Some people really have to read the material and others can do well listening to a taped lecture.

However, I do think we need changes to something that is more pass-fail, where passing means a 90% grade in a grading system.

They aren’t stagnating, they are rotting... from the head down and from the inside out. Also, they don’t teach, they indoctrinate and if they aren’t indoctrinating, they are scolding.

That said... I am a reading/writing learner. I hate listening to lectures and speeches. Unless the speaker has a magically mellifluous voice, I retain almost nothing.

However, if I read it, it sticks forever. I even re-read stuff in my dreams!

Maslow and his self actualization pyramid is another one that is wrong. In fact, there is evidence he got it backwards

Almost anything by Spencer, Piget, james, and Nodding is demonstratedly wrong.

Without realizing it they have replaced Dewey, who though flawed at least tried to develop pedagogy as a science, with the younger Heidegger. Heidegger was in charge of the NAZIfication of German school. He is a total subjectivist and the founder of Post Modernism.

The whole system is irretrievably ruined. It must be destroyed and replaced.

And yes, my PhD is in Education Philosophy, this is my feild.

Not so, says the American Psychological Association.

These are the people who says if a boy baby grabs a doll he is actually a girl.

Take everything they say with a big chunk of salt.

Semantics. If you really don’t like to read or if you can only get information from reading, it will affect your ability to learn.

I’m not reading the article. But people have different learning styles.

The education system has been stagnant for far too long ....

Because its guardians haven't been bothering with the tiresome old "education" part.

I disagree with this long-winded pooh-poohing. It’s just common sense that with the actual diversity of human beings, there would certainly be large clusters in several areas.

"We’re told that everyone should learn the same thing at the same age, but is that really best? "

Educating to the lowest common denominator was a progressive liberal concept.

Cover for cramming kids into public classrooms and teaching them all the same way. If “Learning Styles” is believed by so many educators, why do they insist on 1 curriculum, 1 way of teaching it? Seems to me that nobody actually believes it - if they did they would evaluate each child and match them with a teacher that meets his learning style.

“Many people, including educators, believe learning styles are set at birth and predict both academic and career success
= = =

But gender isn’t.

Hmmmmm.

But they should be able to declare their learning style, right?

Learning Styles Don’t Actually Exist, Studies Show

I have a wife and two kids and can verify that what "studies show" is BS.

About 15 years ago, I went to a seminar led by a researcher who criticized the idea of learning styles. Instead, he preferred the term "learning patterns."

He said their research identified four patterns. If I recall correctly, the patterns were described this way:

We learn by

(1) listening, reading, writing, and asking questions to make sure the information is accurate;
(2) organizing information in some way;
(3) solving a problem on our own - for example, fixing a radio or something;
(4) and thinking creatively, outside the box.

I might not be describing those patterns exactly the way he did. It was a long time ago.

But, he said all of us learn through all four patterns, but most of us tend to rely on one pattern and avoid another.

And that made perfect sense.
