We've entered year three of the pandemic, and experts still know very little about long Covid, including how to cure its symptoms.
On July 20th and July 21st, the Global Virus Network hosted the first-ever conference devoted solely to the science of long Covid. There, scientists spoke openly about what is known about the mysterious condition and the questions that remain.
For example, researchers are still searching for answers to two key questions:
* How do we define long Covid?
* Will Covid-19 medication like Paxlovid treat long Covid symptoms as well?
At this stage, even providing an estimate of how many people have long Covid is tough because symptoms vary, says Robert Gallo, co-founder and director of the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, who was one of the conference's panelists.
"It'll change tomorrow and next week, and it depends on whose criteria you're using," Gallo says. "We don't even agree on how to define it yet, so it's difficult."
Anecdotally, we know that many people are experiencing Covid symptoms long after infection, and data analyzed by the CDC in June shows that 7.5% of adults in the U.S. have markers of long Covid.
Currently, the agency defines long Covid as a condition that causes long-term effects as a result of an initial Covid-19 infection. These symptoms typically present long after you test negative for the virus and range from respiratory to neurological.
Per the CDC, people with post-Covid conditions commonly report symptoms of:
* Fatigue that interferes with daily activities
* Fever
* Difficulty breathing
* Cough
* Chest pain
* Brain fog
* Headache
* Depression or anxiety
* Muscle pain
* Changes in menstrual cycles and more

Last year, the Americans with Disabilities Act classified long Covid as a disability due to its debilitating effects on some people.
PINGAROO!
Strange that symptoms of “ long covid” match many of the rare side effects of the safe and effective vaxxines injected into over 200 million Americans…

Ivermectin has been used quite successfully to eliminate Long Covid symptoms:

I get all of this when I listen to Biden, so what’s your point?
Mayo says "The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is unknown, although there are many theories — ranging from viral infections to psychological stress. Some experts believe chronic fatigue syndrome might be triggered by a combination of factors. There's no single test to confirm a diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome...The most recent term proposed is systemic exertional intolerance disease (SEID)."
"Systemic exertional intolerance disease" cracks me up. That is a fancy way to say "couch potato" or "lazy bum."
Like I said, Long COVID sounds like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. No real biological markers for it, just symptoms.
Victor Davis Hanson discusses his long COVID a lot in his podcasts. It sounds very debilitating.
RE: I get all of this when I listen to Biden, so what’s your point?
LOL. I’m glad “Changes in Menstrual Cycles” wasn’t one of your symptom”. LMAO.
Ivermectin and zinc will cure it but Big Pharma cannot make billions so the CDC will not allow it.
This is a LIE. We — those of us who are informed — know what to do to strengthen our immune systems and weaken spike proteins. The other “we” — the idiots at CNN and MSNMC — certainly don’t know what to do. WE are NOT part of that “we.”
Long Covid is a euphemism for being trapped in a body that’s been turned into a genetic spike protein factory with no ‘off’ switch.
> exertional intolerance
That very phrase was on my last employee review!
LOLOL. Really. Sounds like you scored a big raise, no doubt.

VDH has been having a rough time with Long Covid. He’s not feeling well.
I’ll respond to your comment because I have had both in the past. I had chronic fatigue syndrome for about 6 weeks many years ago after the death of my father. I thought I was getting plenty of sleep and every thing, but I was afraid to even drive to work for fear of falling asleep and my head was bobbing forward at my desk at work all day. I wasn’t tired in the least though. It’s hard to even explain. I never read about the psychological link until much later and attribute it to that.
I have had covid three times now and chronic fatigue was the main indicator all three times. Notice I never said syndrome, big difference between the two. I was at the BMV (spring 2020) for a couple of hours when I caught it the first time and chronic fatigue was the only indicator, about 10 days worth.
I ain’t no way tired, lol.
No, he isn’t. You can really hear it in his voice.
Doh. Poor fella (Mr. Hanson).
I know a fellow who’s ‘enjoying’ the symptoms. Let’s just say that it’s debilitating, and I’m not sure how (or if) he manages to get along.
Myself, I suspect I may have some going on too, but I’m trying to struggle on through. Some days are okay. Other days, I feel like I’m 85 years old or something.
And I don’t mean to insult 85 year olds. I had a friend whom the medico’s killed last year who was 85, and sharp as a tack until he got covid and they gave him the whatsis and left him in the hall to die. Still miss Geno and getting together to play World of Warships on Saturdays. Good times.
But yeah. No fun. It seems to hit me hardest when I’m fatigued or otherwise stressed, like after a long car journey.
Or maybe I’m just confused. :P
Bleh.
“I was afraid to even drive to work for fear of falling asleep and my head was bobbing forward at my desk at work all day.”
I’ve experienced that. I could fall asleep instantly at my desk or at a stoplight. My doc said it might be sleep apnea and he referred me to the sleep clinic which confirmed it. I was stopping breathing many times a night and would partially wake up, so there was no uninterrupted sleep. I got a CPAP machine which helps somewhat, but not 100%.
Have you talked to your doc about the narcolepsy problem?
*** exertional intolerance***
I think that’s what my older sister has. She rarely has energy, and seems tired much of the time. As soon as she exerts herself in any way, she seems to need to sit down or take a nap.
I’ve urged her to see the doctor to get to the bottom of it. She’s not as persistent with her doc as I would be. Sometimes I think she’s afraid to find out what’s really going on.
She will be 70 in a few months, but acts like she’s 80 or even older.
With my second bout of Covid I got long Covid. It was a constant headache for an entire month. My biggest fear was having a stroke. I’m of the opinion that Spartuacus knew what he was talking about. https://www.theautomaticearth.com/2021/09/spartacus/
