Twenty-eight civil rights and health care groups announced Tuesday they have requested that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) address “dietary racism” in national school lunch programs, raising concerns to the federal agency about forcing millions of minority children to drink cow’s milk without allowing them a healthier alternative.
In a letter to the USDA’s Equity Commission, the groups said the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) only incentivizes dairy milk, a policy they called “inherently inequitable and socially unjust” because children of color are more likely to be lactose intolerant — meaning they cannot fully digest sugars in dairy and can suffer from adverse effects after consumption.

Giv’em water
Get some Lactose cows from the Dutch farmers.
How ‘bout the little piggies bring their own “dietary unracist” lunches to school paid for by their own family?
A grape Nehi should do it.
Maybe the schools should have Olde English malt liquor on tap.
EGGSACTLY, don’t they get food stamps for that?
Hold on there - school lunch programs were all sorted out by Michelle Obama.
I have two black children. Both are lactose intolerant and one has a milk protein sensitivity (that’s worse and includes lactose free milk). We provide them with oat milk and almond milk for cereal, etc. But otherwise they drink iced tea and water. They make up calcium and protein in part through high meat consumption. The schools don’t owe us anything.
Yep. Phase out all school lunches completely, and there will be absolutely no discrimination. Same for everyone: nothing.
I might go so far as to give one thin slice of cold nutraloaf to a child who really had nothing to eat. What needs to stop is the nonsense of providing three meals a day, year-round, to every student and any family members that care to partake. And even that’s apparently not good enough, because racist or something.
I’m tired of negroes constantly whining about EVERYTHING. How ‘bout y’all PACK YOUR OWN LUNCHES?
Lets do away with school lunches.
Watch the schools freak because its yet one more way to get money from people. And federal funds.
Its all justaboutmomey and body counts for funding.
Its time to do away with government schools. They are now just a pox and blight on society.
I made it through school with homemade baloney or peanut butter sandwiches. If that’s good enough for me, it’s good enough for the little gender benders.
Hello Kitty and The Flintstones school lunch boxes and supplies have been declared racist!
Exactly. This article strongly implies that the parents are too helpless to know what to do.
My parochial school cafeteria options consisted of:
Monday through Thursday either hamburger or hot dog
Friday - tuna salad sandwich...
And milk of course. Plain or chocolate...
I’m the Manager of a Public School Kitchen. We are required to offer Lactose free milk options with our breakfast/lunch programs for our Lactose Intolerant students, per USDA rules. This is Federally mandated, meaning a Nationwide rule for any Public School district receiving Federal funds.
That Al Sharpton led group needs education in the School Breakfast/Lunch Program.
I’d take a lunch to school more than half the time, but sometimes would buy the school lunch for 25 cents (especially on wiener-wrap day — yum). Once in a while I’d skip lunch so I could spend the quarter on candy.
Nobody that I knew of got free school lunches, though there might have been a few. My parents would have been furious at the mere suggestion that they couldn’t provide for their kids.
So dairy cows are racist!
I suspected that from the look in their eyes, the pretense of being lovable and docile but really showing they favor systemic racism and slavery.
Tipoff: white milk.
Biden should eat Lactaid Dessert (ice cream like non dairy) or oat milk dessert.
