Increasing The IRS Annual Budget By Seven Times Doesn’t Add Up
American Thinker ^ | 6 Aug, 2022 | Anony Mee

It looks more like Biden’s Congress is funding an $80 billion war on We the People.

The talk in the media is about a “beefed-up” IRS. The IRS budget for FY 2022 totals nearly $14 billion ($11.9 billion in appropriated funds) with a full-time equivalent (FTE) staff ceiling of 79,808 (75,533 from appropriated funding.)

Now, the Democrat-controlled Congress, at the behest of the Biden Administration, wants to take that up an additional almost $80 billion, with 1% going to Department of the Treasury offices other than the IRS. That adds up to nearly $93 billion, seven times this year’s budget. SEVEN TIMES.

In addition, Democrats want to add in another 86,852 FTEs, more than doubling the staffing to 166,660. These positions are described as “new, specialized enforcement staff.” See page 17 of the American Families Plan Tax Compliance Agenda for more. The increased funding and staffing are designed to restore IRS enforcement capability through a sustained rebuilding of the IRS.

According to IRS data, staffing was at a peak in 1995 at 114,064 FTEs. That was before automation, common use internet, and e-filing. Data processing took more than a quarter of all staff.

Within two years, the data processing staff was cut in half—no surprise there—and disappeared altogether as a category a couple of years later. As banking became more automated, collections staff numbers other than revenue officers were reduced by two-thirds. With the advent of e-filing, the filing and account management staff declined. Staffing has been more or less at today’s level for a decade, which is eminently reasonable as more sophisticated automation is available to both the IRS and the taxpayer. Under these circumstances, the IRS will not be rebuilding its old structure nor restoring anything that may have been lost. So, what’s going on?

They are planning an extensive pogrom against anybody who is against their leftist ideals and goals.

They’ll couple the DHS’s lists with the FBI, with Google’s lists of disrupters, with all these new DEI Hate Czars’ identified undesirables, and then they’ll go after them, their money and with the weapons and ammo they’ll have, take their lives if they protest.

Think Night of the Long Knives writ large and continuous.

No, you did not!

And, while I am not opposed to tariffs, what makes you think a tariff on imported goods will generate enough money to support the Fed?

Over time, as the US economy revives, the FAIRtax rate will be reduced because the leviathan federal government will shrink.

The IRS will have much greater power to enforce ideology and punish political opposition.

That is the purpose.

Good article on some of this stuff:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/03/03/irs-tax-backlog-hiring/

I enjoyed the part about the IRS still using 1960s software as the “backbone” on their software infrastructure.

Throwing money and people at the problem is amusing—what they need is seances with the original Fortran programmers!

As an interesting aside, President Trump repeatedly spoke of the tariffs he imposed on goods from China and the EU. I think maybe the EU tariffs were rescinded or never went in to effect.

But, the China tariffs were in actuality a tax increase ultimately borne by American consumers. The tariffs were collected by U.S. Customs on entry of the goods into the country. Although the President said over and over that China paid the tariffs that was simply not true. The American importer paid the tariff tax and that was passed on to the ultimate consumer.

China did not pay the tariffs. Perhaps China made adjustments to the currency or other such to protect local vendors, but China did not pay the amounts due to American customs.

The China tariffs were a tax increase that went directly into the general treasury

If we get the house and senate and presidency in 2024, can we stop this? It’s actually going to take 10 years to fully implement this so at least some might be able to stop.

Billions going to staffing but I’m not seeing any for upgrading computer systems. For years we hear about 100 refunds going to same address and other fraud situations.

How does IRS not have upgraded, red flag computer systems in this day and age.

One year got letter from IRS saying we owed money I called. I was on the phone for 1.5 hrs. She kept asking me if I ever owned a business. I told her no. Some how my account was flagged as owning a business and showing money owed. It got resolved and we didn’t own anything. It was an anal probe of my tax returns for many years. But yet, they send 100’s of refunds to the same address in our capital city of my state (was in the news).

I like the idea. Everyone pays. Tired of people with 6 kids of unmarried people on welfare/ or making minimum wage getting 10K refund checks.

A seven fold increase in funding and “only” a doubling of staff? Where is all that money going to go and for what? Surely not pay raises of 3 or 4 fold?

The most frightening sight I have ever seen was at the Houston IRS office, a business associate also officed in the same building. I had reason to be there at lunch time, break times which seemed to be all day and quitting time. First, you don’t want to be in their way when they head out to smoke, lunch or go home. It is a stampede. Second and most terrifying is to see who gets to paw over your tax returns. Built in conflict of interest.

Never wonder why the guy flew a light plane into the IRS offices in Austin. He was highly motivated and with reason.

Probably. One of the places she had to audit was the owner of a strip club.

I think the funding amount is for several years. I am trying to find where I saw that. The title would be misleading if that is the case.
