Thirty-two laid off at Sinclair refinery, 55 more jobs to be cut in September

The Sinclair oil refinery is laying off 87 employees.

Thirty-two workers at the southern Wyoming refinery, one of the largest in the region, have already been laid off. Another 55 were notified they’d be let go at the end of September.

The cuts come just months after the refinery’s parent company, Sinclair Oil Corp., was sold in March.

The plant’s new owner, HF Sinclair Corp., hasn’t said much about why it decided to do layoffs — just that they were prompted by the sale.

“As a result of the recent acquisition, we are aligning our facilities to reflect best practices for operational excellence,” HF Sinclair Director of Corporate Communications Corinn Smith said in a Thursday statement.

Refineries aren't being built and this one is closing? Can't blame the Chicoms or globalization for this. The new company is investing in 'renewables'. The rest of the article points to the victimization in it's wake. It's the 80's all over again. Something stinks here. Just read the quote of Corinn Smith. Foot soldier lieutenants swallowing this kinda crap.

Does anyone have the picture of the Biden sticker saying “I did that?”

I’ve been by this town. It is located on I-80 just east of Rawlins. Population of the town has always been around 400 people and the refinery the main employer. The town is appropriately named Sinclair and, yes, you can get gas there. At least you could the last time I drove by.

Aye, you can't assume just because there is a name on a map that you can get services there. Or even that there is any current population there.

Casper has held up fairly well so far, but now I'm hearing more and more stories of oil workers packing up and leaving town. Biden's war on oil is pretty much a war on Wyoming as well.

This is not far from where I live. The refinery is subcontracting the specific work out instead of having employees. They are not closing down the refinery.

This company has done the same with other refineries they have purchased.

The article fails to answer several questions to put the layoffs in context. Will distillate production be cut as a result of the layoffs? Will the plant be shut down entirely? Would layoffs have been less had Keystone continued on track? Is there an overcapacity of refineries?

A family member who ran one of the Fortune 100 companies says the big investment companies buy controlling shares of opposing companies then manipulate share values up and down with no care of anything but profit.

Cause a market change, short the planned loser, make $$ on the other.

Not disabling my add blocker but guessing this is that’s what’s going on here.

The last US oil refinery was built in 1976. Climate-idiots, along with leftist Democrat government have been working tirelessly to completely hobble this country’s ability to refine gas.

All new bosses in just about any industry cull after taking control. They will be hiring next week. Nothing to see here. Move on.

Most people are totally unaware that there is even a war being wage, let alone that there are multiple fronts to this war, both internal, as well as, external.

For them, it is just politics, and life, as usual.

Some people just never wake up to reality I guess.

Correct me if am wrong.
About 70 years ago, I drove by that refinery, and what I remember was the gasoline stations closest to that refinery were higher in price than the gas stations farther away. - Tom

Same here, it’s just a few miles west of me and most of my community work there. They are reorganizing and consolidating their operations to their corporate model. Its going to be tough, but we will prevail. We still have enough coal to provide energy for the country for the next 150 years. Once the societal collapse happens, I take up a pick ax and shovel and start digging.
