A woman in New York died on Wednesday after her family's dog attacked her.
When the woman's husband arrived at the couple's home on Long Island at about 1 p.m., he discovered that his wife was dead after being attacked by the family's pit bull, according to FOX 5.
The pit bull was violent and went after police officers when they arrived, and they ended up killing the dog.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder described the scene as "horrific."

“If you find them so gentle and appealing, then why not clear the shelter of them? Start a Place for Pits Kennel, so they’re not be put down...”
We do. There are quite a few pit rescue groups in this area. They go to all the municipal shelters and take the pits they are able to and foster them with members of organizations specifically established for that purpose. The municipal shelters will not release any individual dog, of any breed, that has a known history of aggression towards people; the municipal shelters work closely with the police departments in that regard. Those dogs are put down. It’s the law. One of our neighbors is one of the foster families.
“What is ridiculous, or, conspiratorial, about that, ought?”
What’s ridiculous is your comment: “Perhaps you could adopt several dozen.” That clearly implied adopting the dogs oneself, NOT establishing a kennel as you are now suggesting.
That’s your opinion. We’ll have to agree to disagree.
You would adopt them and keep them in your kennel.
Give them a forever home. If a worthy candidate meets your application process, then, you could perhaps allow them to adopt.
What a wonderful service you would be doing for these dogs....this breed you are fond of.
Good luck, if you decide to act on my idea!!
A Place for Pits ... Ought from Naught ;-)
Kindest, ventless you ever had. . nice, pleeeease. Pitbulls all have heads as hard as rocks, The can’t be gentle. One head butt and you get a bruise or a kid gets knocked down. But you are right, one in a million isn’t a breed standard. Which for puts is a wide open chain saw hanging over your head by a rubber band.. it may stretch or it may break at any moment.
“That’s your opinion. We’ll have to agree to disagree.”
I guess we will.
Not accurate or fair? Pit bulls lead the list of most violent dog attacks. Thats a fact. Stop being such a Karen. It’s the truth.
Or clean up your upchuck.
I’m not either, you will notice in my post I didn’t say the dog should be outlawed, just that it shouldn’t be in the care of someone inexperienced. I would never own a pit bull (I consider them to be a medium size dog) but I have owned giant breeds all my life and all were unaltered.
This dog may well have been socialized, the fact is it was grieving and I bet the woman was inexperienced and who knows, may have tried to take something away from him or, worse, smacked him for doing something he was not supposed to do.
I dealt with a grieving dog once, they wanted to put him down because everyone thought he was too vicious to save. 2 months later he was a big moosh, just like he was before his owner died. BUT, it was a lot of work.
I despise these type dogs as I despise Moslems. Except one is inherent, the other philosophical environment.
Both are equally unreliable and destructive.
Puppies are so damn cute that many can’t imagine them as adults. And pits are athletes. Mine would see my mom a couple of times a year when he was younger. He once leapt across the coffee table, lengthwise, and landed on the arms of the chair she was in. It spun 360 degrees. He barely made contact with her.
Bravo.
It’s true, and esp. scary since many treat it as a breed, and not a type. There are many breeds of pit-bull terriers.
Also despite the surge in feeling sorry for these dogs (as In “Racism”) that’s led to greater numbers, they as a group still are not that popular to account for the gargantuan proportion of killing attacks. Far disproportionate to their popularity.
People who’ve never had a pit, or been close to someone who does just don’t understand how sweet these goofballs can be.
Problem is they are just such powerful animals. Too many owners are irresponsible, don’t train or discipline them, or worse, use their natural protectiveness and train them to be aggressive. That’s animal cruelty imo.
Owning a pit, or a Rottie for that matter should be treated as a matter of great personal responsibility. It’s never the dog, it’s the owner.
Pit bulls are 66% of all dog mallling fatalities of humans. Second place is Rottweilers at 10%.
I like the women walking pits they can’t control.
I saw this one walking two leashed big pits on a sidewalk and a woman across the street was walking the other way with a dog on a leash. Pea brain with the pits was nearly drug to the center of the road as those pits were going to eat the other dog and it’s owner. The lunatic with the pits just barely kept it from happening. Real close to getting real ugly.
Eats the female owner then goes after the cops. What a great family pet to have in the neighborhood.
It's possible someone is trying to avoid significant liability and other charges.
Blame it on the dead guy!
I have your poorly written screed or my ten years of experience. I’ll get back to you with my decision as to which I find dispositive.
We always adopt the oldest dog we can find, give it all the love and care we can and ease its final months, or if lucky, years. I pay no attention to the breed, our focus is the old ones that have been abandoned when their medical costs begin to mount.
There are no good reasons for pit bulls to be allowed in public. They are private animals no safer than a pet chimpanzee or a tiger. It's ignorant to poo-poo the data about pit bull attacks.
"sweetest dog ever my ass, tell that to the UPS man who the dog will tear the door down or try and break the leash to get to him or her. And it's not because the dog loves the UPS guy.
you have to be ignorant to own a pit bull.
Doesn’t prove that they are inherently violent.
Where’s the studies on the owners of pit bulls and their tendencies and record? Where’s the studies of pit bulls nature before their dysfunctional owners and after?
Stop using stupid labels like Karen and use you head instead.
