I would think their defeat of Roe v Wade should’ve taught them something.
My bad…
Another run around State’s Rights.

Legalizing same sex marriage has nothing to do with destroying the family. The government needs to get out of the marriage business. Government has done way more to destroy the family than same sex marriage ever will. Thinking same sex marriage has anything to do with your traditional marriage is all inside your head. Government policies that reward single mothers and tax people into needing two incomes is magnitudes more destructive to the family than a piece of paper filed in a courthouse ever could be. Government wants us to fight imaginary battles (like same sex marriage) so we will ignore the real battle, the people against the government. I wish people would realize that its not Republican vs Democrat, it people against the government.

Why are you conflating welfare with homosexual marriage?

I don’t know, human solution worked pretty good in the revolutionary war, and countless other times in our history.

God helps those who help themselves, but we’re not helping ourselves.

The would be "Revolutionaries" won't be able to get to the front this time.

They will all be stranded at home defending against starving marauders.

Its a good bet many of the Republicans don’t have any idea what is in the bill. They just know the “name” of it.

Its Un-effing-constitutional... didn’t Roe wake everyone up? There’s no provision for marriage in the constitution, which is why DOMA is no more.

Same argument for codifying Roe... there’s no provision in the constitution for a federal law for abortion, marriage, etc.

Actually God came to help those who can not help themselves. He is the great physician, healing the sick who can’t heal themsleves. Being sinners, our hearts are desperately wicked, and there is no way we can save ourselves, so God provided the way through his son- he breaks through the sin and wicked hearts to reach those who can’t save themsleves.

>> Legalizing same sex marriage has nothing to do with destroying the family. The government needs to get out of the marriage business. Government has done way more to destroy the family than same sex marriage ever will. <<

But you see, that’s just it. The government has nothing to do with who loves each other, or who undergoes a religious OR secular ritual to declare that love. But the government is the enforcer of contracts. And a marriage is a legal marriage ensuring the well-being of children, which are the natural consequence of sex. And that’s the only thing that government should have to do with sex: enforcement of that contract. However, since the government has instituted a shocking number of regulations which it recognizes can obstruct parents taking care of their children, it has also created an astounding number of exemptions and special privileges for spouses based on the presumption that they are cooperating in raising children.

What has destroyed the family is:

1. The government providing all sorts of benefits to parents, so long as the parents don’t get married, in which case, because their incomes are usually pooled together, they will no longer qualify.

2. Exemptions allowed for the presumption that spouses either have kids or are preparing to have kids are now viewed as special privileges, completely forgetting their purpose.

3. State governments have permitted spouses to unilaterally annul their contracts with each other for no good reason.

I have a different take on government involvement in marriage. I’ve never wanted a secular institution to be involved in marriage. Our laws have marriage imbedded all over the place so this continues to be an issue. It adds complexity and eliminates personal responsibility while creating dependency on government. There are alternatives to government being the arbiter of marriage. In my hierarchy of things, there is God, Church, the individual and numerous other things with government being last. Government does not have the credibility. It is self evident since we are discussing this right now. We don’t need government picking winners and losers. Marriage is one of the things used to pick winners and users. Just look at the tax code. We don’t need government implementing policies to encourage positive behavior, which I considered marriage being one. Governments track record is a failure. Just look at marriage statistics. Our government’s role should be protecting our rights. That means hands-of religion and religious institutions such as marriage.

It was a mistake for the federal government to become involved in marriage in the first place and now we see why.

But now that particular cat is out of the bag and no way to put it back.

One BIG reason for GOP cave-in: Globalist incentive $$$ (the carrot) and the threat of LGBTXYZ vengeance, which is considerable at this time (the stick).

In the short run, this means we will be seeing lots more “marriages” between same-sex couples to facilitate illegal immigration. The flood of illegal aliens was already bad - it’s going to get worse, lads and lassies. Buy ammunition and stock up on nonperishable foods.

And out of those two outcomes, only one has a chance of working. (It’s not the dictatorship.)
