What other factors that could lead to this decline?
What have marriage rates done in countries that have NOT legalized gay marriage?
This is a very complicated social issue that most likely does not have a single cause. How about the general decline in religious observation with the next generation, maybe they don’t care about marriage, gay or not.
BTW I am a fairly educated guy, please don’t add to a ongoing debate by calling me uninformed or uneducated.
Marriage rated plummeted from 1945 to 1960 in roughly the same percentage in 1990 to 2020. Same thing from 1920 to 1935. Think those drops were caused by gay marriage? Its a complex question. Don’t cherry pick data so support an anti-gay marriage position, it weakens your argument. I don’t have strong feelings one way or another on the subject, but I DO like honest complete arguments.

You are completely wrong. You make the mistake of assuming that marriage is strictly a religious proposition.
Feel free to take any and every religious aspect out of marriage if you so desire and look at it from a completely secular point of view.
Traditional mom and pop marriages work and benefit a society. Queer marriages do not work and tear down a society.
This being true, any government or society wanting to grow and prosper will naturally promote healthy traditional marriages.
Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act. Go figure.

Not so. Government is a law-making body, and which laws will always reflect beliefs. Which includes affirming what marriage is and is not since it must deal with cases claiming covenantal marital rights (including regarding property), from multiple wives or husbands to those btwn the same gender to those with and btwn beasts, trees. fish or themselves. Even treating all co-habitation the same has the effect of defining marriage. Having cast off any sure supreme moral standard, now there is really nothing to stop liberal courts from treating a barnyard of diverse multiple unions as marriage.
The government makes and enforces laws regarding actions, from freedom of religion and speech, to the right to bear arms, to speed limits to capital punishment, based upon the beliefs of the Founders, and in turn, those who elect their interpreters. And the beliefs of Founders overall flowed from religion, and not any religion, but the general Christian faith more than any other more than any other, reflective of the people overall. But which SCOTUS later fundamentally disowned since government by the people (as a downside) means that in their spiritual declension, they can vote to themselves not only largess, but, directly or indirectly, anti-Christ persons.
