Pocono NASCAR Cup Series winner Denny Hamlin and second-place finisher Kyle Busch were disqualified Sunday after their cars failed post-race inspections.
"There was some issues discovered that affect aero in the vehicle," said Brad Moran, managing director of the NASCAR Cup Series, widely considered the top auto race league. "There really was no reason why there was some material that was somewhere it shouldn't have been. And that does basically come down to a DQ."
Hamlin was the first Cup winner to be disqualified since April 17, 1960, when Emanuel Zervakis' victory at Wilson Speedway in North Carolina was thrown out because of an oversized fuel tank, according to ESPN.com.
Both racers' Toyota cars will reportedly be sent to North Carolina for further evaluations at NASCAR's research-and-development center.
The official victory was handed to third-place Chase Elliott but the results can be appealed. Elliott now sits in first place in the official NASCAR rankings.
Hamlin and Busch are part of the Joe Gibbs Racing team, which can appeal NASCAR's decision.
A small piece of tape on front end under the wrap. Normal NASCAR would of fined the team, not taken away the win. NASCAR’s policy for decades was to not change winning after the fans went home, guess there’s a new sheriff in town 🤣
How ridiculous... Did he forget to use someone’s preferred pronouns?
It can and will be appealed......................
Nascar lost me a few years ago with the constant rule changes and then the wokeness. Watched a little the other day and it’s even close to the same. Sad to watch this sport go by the wayside.
NASCAR died 20 years ago. What it is now is unrecognizable from the halcyon days in 1990
It was the M&M’S FAN APPRECIATION 400. I’m surprised Kyle Bush wasn’t given the win somehow.
He as DQ’d as well.................

I visited a number of garages around Mooresville, NC over a decade ago.
Even then, there were only a couple parts of the car that were authentic to the advertised car model.
Any resemblance to an actual Toyota, Chevrolet or Ford is purely superficial and graphical.
Someone must’ve referred to the car as, ‘She’ when she identifies as a ‘He!’
All cars are female. Everyone knows that. The ‘science’ is settled!
*SNORT*
All ships, aircraft and automobiles are referred to as ‘she’....................
Well, as the old saying goes “If you ain’t cheatin’, you ain’t tryin’ “.
As meticulous as the teams have to be in assembling and preparing these cars, if something is out of place, even if it is something just taped over, it probably is cheating.
I prefer DTM myself. Just sayin’...
These new-this-season cars have areas teams aren’t supposed to even touch. They did that and more. No one yet knows exactly what, but it couldn’t have happened to a more charming pair of drivers. /s
Gibbs Racing did NOT appeal the decision by the Monday noon deadline — they knew they were cheatin’
🤔👍....................................
They must be. Beau has a whole list of, ‘female expletives’ he uses when working on his truck, LOL!
They modified the contour of the front wheel flares on the bodywork. Supposedly that can make a big difference in drag. Of course at Pocono with the 3700 ft straightaway a significant deal.
My question is:
What did the 2” x 5” piece of tape on either side of the front facia (and under the vinyl wrap...) do to the handling/speed of the cars? It was 0.012” thick, so how did it change the aero effects.
That is the mystery.
NOOSECAR is the apex of liberalism where everyone has to be the same.
