Two children have tested positive for monkeypox in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed Friday.
One is a toddler from California; the other is in an infant who is not a U.S. resident and was 'transiting through' Washington D.C. Neither had contact with each other.
Health officials said both children were 'doing well', but warned children under the age of eight are at high risk of severe monkeypox.
It is thought both children likely caught the virus from 'household contacts'.
Dr Rochelle Walensky said the children both had contact with gay or bisexual men — the community where most cases are being detected in the current outbreak.
It was not clear when they caught the virus, or what symptoms they suffered.
They are receiving the antiviral TPOXX, which can help stop an infection in its tracks by interfering with the virus's maturation.
They are the first cases among children to be detected in America. There are currently more than 2,500 cases of monkeypox in the U.S. — the second biggest outbreak in the world behind only Spain with 3,000.
A boy under 10 years old tested positive for the virus in the Netherlands in June, as was revealed this week. The Dutch child suffered more than 20 red lesions on his face, forearms and thighs but had no fever or swollen lymph nodes — with the infection mostly clearing within a week.

This is why you want to quarantine people before it has spread much. Quarantine the sick people and there is no need for lock downs and other measures.
It doesn’t matter that it’s primarily a gay disease. It ends up affecting innocents, just like AIDS did.
There will be kids getting it through no fault of their own. There will be people getting it through blood transfusions.
It may very well stay a primarily gay disease. But in addition to some collateral damage to innocents, there is the chance it will infest small rodent populations like it does in Africa. And then it’s endemic and we will be seeing it pop up frequently. And with an animal reservoir it will become very hard to irradicate.

Except that getting HIV was initially a death sentence. Even with that, San Francisco health authorities had a hell of a time closing down the gay bathhouses. Monkeypox now appears to be a lot less dangerous than HIV, so it is even more likely to spread.
If those kids were infected by being anally raped by gays, let's see arrests and prosecutions. NOW.

I should be more specific in stating the spread of AIDs and Monkeypox is originating from gay communities and just like the 80’s with the spread of AIDS it spread to Bi and hetro because they could not isolate because the gays decided it was unconsitutional.
But yes, I agree if those children were infected by anal sex then prosecute but I don’t see that happening. You can spread HIV in California now and it;’s not against the law so monkey-pox spreading, possibly even sex with a child(if that is so) wouldn’t go far because they’re a protected class? Pedos are almost protected in California, so the gaystapo would end that fast just like they did in the 80’s.
They MADE HIV/AIDs a heterosexual disease. Give monkeypox a year and it’ll be the same....if it’s not isolated and if it spreads.
