Two children have tested positive for monkeypox in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed Friday.
One is a toddler from California, while the other is not a resident in America. Neither had contact with each other.
Health officials said both children were 'doing well', and had likely caught the virus from 'household contacts'.
'Both of these are traced back to individuals who come from the men-who-have-sex-with-men community, the gay men's community.'

The issue here is this bug has reached critical mass it’s making the jump to the general population in more than one country. Once it gets into children it becomes a much more serious issue the CFR for children is 3 to 10% not 1% or less for adults. Children also have much poorer hygiene skills than adults anyone who has ever taught children can attest to this. They touch,lick,pick,and smear everything everywhere. You can try to get them to “hanatize” with alcohol on the regular but as every school will tell you once a formite bug gets a foot hold such as pink eye or noro virus it’s going to spread like wildfire in a windy dry summers day. These are just facts. The goal should be to stop this bug before it one gets a foothold in the general population and two before it gets into North American rodents and other mammals becoming endemic. Just wishing it away is not going to work th is bug is here it’s spreading and it won’t stop until we humans stop it just like smallpox. Virus don’t care what your political feelings are not do they care if you just want to ignore them they gonna virus and some are very good at virusing. North Texas double the count in under a week it will double again by next week since the supply of the means to contain it is limited. Scientists who don’t have a sun 100 IQ have been warning since the 1980s that once monkey pox made a break out into the modern world with air travel and not BFE Africa it would replace smallpox as the dominant pox virus. Those scientists were of course right and we are seeing exactly what was predicted from the mid 1980s onward.
They caught it early and vaccinated his whole family and nearby contacts that’s exactly how you stop the spread. Had they let him go to school thinking it was just a face rash you can be sure it would have spread. Monkeypox is one of the few virus that can infect unbroken skin with just a handshake or a touch. Herpes is another so is HPV. Monkeypox is also active for days on linens and surfaces not exposed to UV light. They handled this case exactly right. Ring vax around the kid, isolate them all hard and fast and try to contact trace the source. It was solid epidemiological work.

That's not true with Orthopox viruses. It was the practice to vaccinate people exposed to Smallpox several days after exposure. It might not completely prevent Smallpox but can decrease the severity. Orthopox virus infections take awhile to get going. Vaccination as soon as possible after exposure was a known way of cutting the risks.
