Pat Benatar won’t perform her 1980 classic “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” anymore.
Amid ongoing gun violence in America, the singer says she’s come to view the song differently.
“I’m not going to sing it,” Benatar told USA Today.
While the song’s meaning is about strength and resiliency, Benatar said “you have to draw the line” and be aware of lyrics.
“I can’t say those words out loud with a smile on my face, I just can’t,” Benatar said, adding that the decision is her “small contribution to protesting.”

Benatar said she will continue perform “We Belong,” “Heartbreaker” and other hits from early in her career. “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was the singer’s first Top 10 hit.

What a load. “Hit me with your best shot, fire away” can be any kind of competitive euphemism, has little to do with firearms, although the Guard did a neat video back in the days with her song and some cool range and training stuff. I have it on VCR tape, but alas, no VCR.....
Nobody was written by the same guy who wrote John Wick. And that same guy was “removed” from John Wick 4, which is not in production..

Whenever I hear the name Pat Benatar, the first thing I think of is “hit me with your best shot” and “love is a battlefield”.
So if she really wants to make a statement, she shouldn’t go on tour at all, since her name is synonymous with songs that glorify gun violence and war, as well as being a painful reminder of the fascist Reagan era.
In fact, she should tell radio stations and spotify to stop playing her music. Not performing that one song in concert is a lame attempt at being a woke ally.
She needs to completely cancel herself.
Never thought of guns when I heard this song- I always thought of boxing -best shot you could land with a fist. Did I miss something in the song??
