Kylie Jenner has faced a torrent of criticism for her decision to take her private jet on a flight that lasted just 17 minutes. But the practice of taking brief journeys on luxury aircraft appears to be common among the rich and famous despite mounting concerns over the climate crisis.
Jenner, the 24-year-old socialite and businesswoman, has faced online opprobrium after she posted an Instagram picture of herself and her partner, rapper Travis Scott, on the runway of an airport between two private jets with the caption “you wanna take mine or yours?”
According to an automated Twitter account that tracks celebrity flights based on transponders and tail fin marking, Jenner’s flight on 12 July lasted just 17 minutes, taking her from Van Nuys in Los Angeles to the nearby town of Camarillo. The model had earlier taken a 27-minute trip in her jet, a $72m Bombardier BD 700, to Van Nuys from Thermal, California.
She was subsequently attacked by Twitter users for her “absolute disregard for the planet” and for being a “full time climate criminal”. It’s estimated that her 17-minute jaunt would’ve resulted in a ton of carbon dioxide emissions, which, while in itself not a huge amount, is about a quarter of the total annual carbon footprint of the average person globally.
But Jenner – who took an even shorter flight, lasting just nine minutes, between the same two locations in June – is far from the only celebrity to make short hops using private aircraft rather than driving or using public transport.

At most busy airports it takes more than a half hour from engine start to takeoff for that 17 minutes of wheels up. Surprising they would even bother to retract the landing gear or put flaps up for a flight of that short time. Save wear and tear on actuators.

Right. We need common-sense flight-time control.
But what should the cut-off time be? This could get confusing in a hurry. So I think it would be easier to simply ban the rich and famous from all planes, boats, cars, trains, etc. Let ‘em walk or bicycle wherever they want to go.
But how to define “rich and famous“? Well, that’s easy. It’s anyone with more money than me.

If you do not have to sit in traffic for several hours to go 45 miles, why would you do it? Jenner has the means to bypass that so good for her.

I don’t care who she is, how she got wealthy or what she does with her money, those are all her problems not mine, that being said I want her to give me the same space and keep her mouth shut about how I make my money, how I spend it. The second she opens her trap and tries to tell me and mine how to live that’s the day she becomes my enemy. Fly on lady, fly on.

We retract the gear and flaps promptly after take off to reduce drag which would have a negative impact on aircraft performance if we were to experience an engine failure while low and slow.
If I could afford to avoid traffic like that I’d do it too. lol. But honestly, this was a true publicity stunt. She could have made it the journey much faster sitting the back of a limo and it could have taken her door to door. But to take a plane, you need to drive to the airport, and then it’s a walk to the plane, wait for takeoff, wait to land, deplane and a lengthy walk to your car, then onto your destination.
“ALLEGED climate ‘crisis’.”. The day the climate stops changing will be a bad day.
These people drive to their personal hanger, jump out of limo and step onto readied plane and off they go. Probably 5 minutes on each end.

Gut if we’re talking about people who claim we’re killing the climate by using too many fossil fuels, it become hypocrisy to use 100 gallons of jet fuel for something that could be done with 10 gallons of gas.
The Mega rich always want to tell us how to live, think, eat, and breath but you never them walking or riding a bicycle. Well maybe walking on stage to get a “I love me award” to to slap the $hit out of the host.
