I have seen a few vanities like this over the past few months asking about IRS refund checks being late. We file in February and usually see something in about a month, until this year.
The IRS "Where's My Refund" site has a note now saying that paper returns may take 6 months to process.
I also found out to access that site, you have to log in to the IRS site first and create an account. That was a chore.
Good news yes.
But its one reason I gave up on paper filings a long time ago.
They want me to report it. They can send me a 1099, or whatever other form to report it. Otherwise, it won't be included. They've had my money for a year and a half to gain interest on. For $13, they can go f*ck themselves.
I didn’t have to wait at all - got my refund throughout all of last year. Sent them about a thousand dollars on April 5th - maybe they’re still waiting on mine!
I’ll never go for direct deposit. No reason to make it too easy to take money out of my checking account.
I am my own tax person and my refund was $20. I'll tweak it some more this year. It is just a little more than a rounding error in my withholding calculations.
I made the post because some Freepers are looking for answers and they may be looking for more serious money.
The website claims Covid caused the delays. It is a one size fits all excuse for many things.
A COVID ate my Munchkins!
I bet you thought Joe had it sent to Ukraine
I’m about to give up...
I too am owed the 2020 refund, filed in 2021 for the 2020 taxes.
I’m still waiting for the IRS to tell me which statute, not IRS code, requires me to pay taxes on money I get in exchange for my labor.
It’s been 18 years and still no response. It doesn’t exist.
My refund that was supposed to come in Apr 2021, for 2020 taxes...arrived in March of this year (2022). My submission for last year...sent in March of 2022? It’s yet to arrive, and I don’t expect it for another six months. I submitted in paper-format.
Whole IRS system is screwed up.
I set up the account and now sail right through. It may be my browser Duck Duck Go or my antivirus that was blocking too.
My affairs are such that I always wind up owing extra, so I never have to worry about a refund. Why let the bastards have free use of my money?
If you get a refund the IRS can take all the time they want to send it to you.
If you have to pay, you’d better not be late or you pay a fine.
Why not make the IRS follow similar rules? Give them, say, a very generous 30 days to make the refund or it increases by 10% per week.
