A Fresno woman is seeking monetary damages after a doctor removed her spleen instead of a diseased kidney, a mistake that left a pathologist “astonished,” according to a lawsuit.
The woman, Sarajane Parfitt, must undergo another operation to take out the kidney, and the removal of the spleen leaves her vulnerable to serious infections, according to medical experts. The lawsuit, filed in Fresno County Superior Court in June, contends the mistake has caused Parfitt “severe emotional distress.”
Paul Pimentel, Parfitt’s attorney, called the surgical error “insane...I’ve never heard of this in this community.”
Named in the lawsuit are Dr. Narayana Ambati, Community Regional Medical Center and Urology Associates of Central California. Also mentioned is another doctor identified as Shahin Chandrasoma of Pasadena.
Efforts to reach Ambati were unsuccessful. Mike Ball, a partner in Fresno law firm McCormick, Barstow, responded to an inquiry by saying:
“The incident involving patient Parfitt was subject of a full (California Department of Public Health) investigation last summer. Dr Ambati was NOT involved in the nephrectomy. The surgeon actually was a locum tenens, Dr. Chandrasoma. He is not affiliated with UACC. Curiously, he is not named in the recent lawsuit, but he is mentioned in paragraphs 10 and 12. I do not know who represents Dr. Chandrasoma.”

I think it means he was a Sub.
LMAO! I recall substitute school teachers. Man we abused them.

I, too have had two hip replacements. My surgeon, also head of the hospital’s orthopedic unit, drew a little cartoon on the hip that was to be replaced. When it came for the second one, it was close to Christmas and he drew a little Christmas tree :-) And both are working wonderfully!
My knees, however, are a different story. They need to be replaced and are too fat right now!
If you can read this sign, you can get a good job in the fast-paced, high-paying world of Latin!
“Enjoys film and screenwriting.”
Yep, it’s California all right!
He was probably dreaming up a new sitcom while yanking out the spleen.
Ha!
Post fail. I meant elbows.
I meant to say that I will write on my elbows.
It’s been a long day.
You get what you import 🤪
Someone said they heard he graduated with the lowest grade in his surgery class at some school in Mexico!
The term is defined immediately after the quote in which it is used.
Your spleen helpa you fight off infections. She’s going to be on antibiotics the rest of her life as prophylactics. How sad.
But, but, but, doktahs are like gods.
Or some seem to act like. In reality, they are mechanics that repair a complex thing.
Many nurses have little liking of them, for good reason.
You could do worse than leave your surgeons a reminder on your own skin with a Sharpie. At the very least it should give them pause to double-check their records if what they think you’re there for doesn’t match what you’ve written on yourself.
Write your message and take a selfie so the text is clearly legible. Then if the doctor screws up, you’ll have one hell of a malpractice claim.
I know three people who had the rotator cuff tear repair and all of them wish they had not done it. Worse now, years later.
So the expression of the kid on the left might not be all that uncommon!
I would do it again in a heartbeat. I went from constant pain and not being able to lift my arm to full mobility again.
I think the key is do your PT. Yes it is a pain and you are in a lot of pain the first three weeks but it does improve.
What??? Actually click on the link and read the whole story???
