TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida woman was arrested Thursday after police said she hid her mother’s body in a freezer to continue collecting the woman’s disability benefits.
On April 28, 2022, police in the city of Sebastian found the body of Marie Hoskins inside a chest freezer while conducting a welfare check at her home.
Police said the victim’s daughter, 64-year-old Michele Hoskins, told officers she found her mother’s body in her bedroom.
Further investigation found that Marie Hoskins, 93, had been dead for around two weeks from natural causes before her daughter bought the freezer to hide her mother’s death, police said.
According to the Sebastian Police Department, Michele Hoskins allegedly concealed her mother’s death “for the concern she would not be able to receive her disability benefits.”

I just don’t get it. There have been several such stories over the years and each time I’m shocked. How in the world could you just heft your mother into a freezer and close the lid? Extreme mental illness? But apparently not extreme enough to stop spending her monthly check.
She got caught in 2 weeks. She chose poorly
We had a son do that for about 3 years.
They only found the Moms body after he died.
Cool

If it was mentsl, illness, it was Not extreme enough for her to be unable to plan too.
“why haven’t we seen your mom lately?”
“She’s very sick. Never leaves the house”
“OK, we are coming over for a welfare check”
“She went to the beach”
Americans are trying to survive any way possible, as we give away hundreds of billions to foreign countries.
The perfect wife and MIL for Florida man?
Is that a picture of the criminal or her dead mother? It’s hard to tell.
that’s cold...
Talk about frozen assets ...
Not bad, not bad at all.

My own thoughts run similar. I’m not yet at the point of doing anything remotely as awful but I can understand why people do desperate things.
Very poorly written article. Nowhere does it state how long the mother had been dead. If it’s unknown, that could have at least been made clear. The two week time interval refers to the time between death and being placed in the freezer, not how long she had been dead.

It doesn’t shock me in the least. For 50 years we’ve been allowing babies to be torn apart in the supposedly most safe and secure place there is.
That sort of devaluation of life leads to all kinds of bad results, as we see everyday.
I bet this happens a lot. As more and more people are reduced to government handouts, the thought of conning the government so the bennies continue is a more and more realistic thought.
Entreprenurial thought: Build and sell freezers that are approximately the size of a coffin.
“Was that wrong? Should I have not done that?” ;)
