Megan Kelly was interviewing former Gambino family underboss turned FBI informant Salvatore 'Sammy the Bull' Gravano when she shared with him the breaking news of Caan's death yesterday.
Gravano then claimed that Caan, 82, was connected to the mob and was present when the actor allegedly asked Colombo family boss Joe Colombo for permission to star as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather.
'He was in the mob,' Gravano told a confused Kelly. 'James Caan was in — was hooked in with the mob.'
'I was there when he came down and asked permission to be in that movie. I was there with Carmine Persico,' Gravano said, referencing another Colombo family boss allegedly present. 'Joe Colombo gave him the role. He was connected with the Colombo family.'
Despite Kelly's skepticism, Gravano doubled down and said that while Caan was not a made member of the mob - given that he was Jewish born from German immigrants - he was an associate of the Colombo family.

I don’t believe Sammy the Rat.
Sammy the Bull ping
He wasn’t even Italian. So no.
Sammy the Rat trying to get another 15 seconds of attention.
the mob was heavily involved with this movie in various ways. It’s possible that Caan asked for permission not because he was a member but just so they didnt come after him..or just a sign of respect since the Don was throwing his weight around
Watch “The Offer’ streaming on paramount +. Producer Al Rudy’s recollection of the making of the film and the soothing of the Colombo family. Not bad.
Really. He was Jewish.
Well he was an associate not a made guy, so yeah.
That I believe. The Don(s) acted like gods. They liked to push people around.
Yeah. I could believe it.
On the other hand, we know that the mafia guys always tell the truth.
but as I said, I could believe this one.
“He wasn’t even Italian. So no.”
If you would actually read the article Gravano specifically states he was not a Made Member because of Caan’s heritage. You can be an associate within the Mob but, only Italians can ever be Made Members.
Neither was Henry Hill but made a movie about his mob exploits, neither was Meyer Lansky and was deeply connected to the mob, the part of Hyman Roth was loosely based on Lansky

Sammy the Bull is a mass murdering rat (at least 19 kills) and a lying piece of trash who couldn’t carry James Caan’s luggage.
?What about Peter Falk? Did he also have to get Joe Colombo's permission?
