Texas cancer survivor, 28, reveals how state's heartbeat law banned her from aborting longed-for miracle baby who was too disabled to survive: Forced to drive 10 hours to New Mexico clinic where pro-lifers called her a murderer

A Texas cancer survivor who suffered three miscarriages was banned from aborting a longed-for pregnancy in her home state on discovering the fetus was too disabled to survive.

Kailee DeSpain, 28, and her husband were forced to make a 10 hour trip to New Mexico in February after a 16 week scan revealed their son Finley had an unsurvivable condition called triploidy.

Carrying the pregnancy to full-term would have put DeSpain at risk of potentially fatal complications, but Texas's so-called heartbeat abortion bill bans almost all abortions except for those vaguely defined as 'medical emergencies.'

DeSpain was told hers did not fit that criteria, and instead set out on a lengthy journey to a neighboring state, where she was branded a murderer by pro-life protesters on arriving at the abortion clinic.

Her doctors had advised she seek termination after her 16-week ultrasound revealed her son, Finley, was not going to survive due to several serious health conditions.

The couple was devastated by the news but opted to end the pregnancy in an effort to prevent potentially life-threatening complications.

Now, DeSpain continues to share her story and fight for women's rights, alleging she will 'not know a single day of peace until I can govern my own body, and everything that goes on inside of it, in the state I once loved.'

So will the lamestream media ever cover stories about ecstatic parents of healthy and happy adopted babies who were not aborted? I doubt it.

Having to drive 10 hours so one can legally kill a child is hardly an inconvenience. She could have flown in a fraction of that time.

In the last 40 years mothers have killed more people than all of the world’s wars and health epidemics through all all of history combined.

Truth is we really do not know if this story is even true.

I don’t see any need to have an “article” about this because the truth is far more use abortion as birth control. There are always exceptions to the rule and she had one. She ended her pregnancy elsewhere. Story over.

I’ve been present at many abortion facilities over the years as a peaceful protester. I have yet to hear anybody call out to someone entering the facility.....calling them a murderer. Any personal interraction I have seen are people asking if they can help.

That story is a lie. Wait for the “set up” videos to come out.

My sister had cancer, she carried her son full term.
Got a hysterectomy after.

They did OK.

The Texas law is pretty specific.

It would help if folks (on both sides) actually read it.

God observed her lack of love and may not give her another opportunity. She failed a basic test.

No. They chose to flout the law, in order to slaughter a baby.

And the story says she had cancer in the past, but did not have cancer during the pregnancy. Very clever title was it not?

Also, many mother carry a baby they know will not survive to term. They never regret it.

“She did murder her baby”.

Yes. There was no justification for this - my daughter and son in law had their son who lived just a few weeks due to heterotaxy syndrome. The baby was diagnosed at 20 weeks and they refused to abort him despite pressure to do so - they had several weeks to love and hold their baby rather than have an abortionist rip him to shreds.

No sympathy for this woman from me!

So true. She evidently doesn’t know any miracle babies. So sad as this publicity is not a good thing for her going forward unless she repents.

I call bullshit on the prolifers calling her a murderer. I’ve been part of the pro-life movement and know many prolife activists. They are without exception kind and compassinate people who care about both the mother and the baby.

She did murder the baby.

And I'm an accomplice to murder because we had to pull the plug on my FIL in a VA ICU.

Maybe not this situation (in the story), but the situations DO happen, and believe me, you live with it the rest of your life.

American politics is not supposed to about "you lose, I win". It is supposed to be about compromise. This attitude is exactly why our Nation is so conflicted right now.

That being said, it was correct to overturn Rode Vs Wade. It was unconstitutional.

I challenge that this is one of those medical emergencies.

All bans should have an exemption that a doctor can attest to (in court) that: either the mom will die or the kid cannot live. Not “might” or “could” or any of the other commie trash weasel words.

Fake news.

For every RARE exception story like, this one, there are 10’s of millions of perfectly healthy babies thst have been murdered for no good reason! (Not thatnthere is a good reason to murder an unborn)

Kelsey Grammer apparently said so ething, like “if someone must be killed for cases of rape, make it the rapist, not the unborn baby”

Not comparable. It isn't necessary to tear a baby to pieces, rather, simply induce labor, give the child comfort care and let it pass away naturally.
You didn't opt to shred your FiL.

To sum it up: she was inconvenienced by having to make a road trip to abort the child she was carrying and her feelings were hurt by what some people outside the butcher shop said to her.

BTW, people travel all the time for medical treatment. Certain cancer treatments are only available at specialized facilities and some treatments aren't accepted by insurance carriers. But, since this is all about abortion, oh the horror!
