Brittney Griner Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges in Russia

The detained American basketball star Brittney Griner pleaded guilty to drug charges in a court near Moscow on Thursday, her lawyer said.

“I’d like to plead guilty, your honor. But there was no intent. I didn’t want to break the law,” Ms. Griner said in English, which was then translated into Russian, Reuters reported.

Ms. Griner has been detained in Russia since Feb. 17, accused by the Russian authorities of having a vape cartridge with hashish oil in her luggage at an airport near Moscow.

Aleksandr Boikov, her lawyer, said cartridges appeared in Ms. Griner’s luggage “because of carelessness.”

BS. I had a resident of Amsterdam put weed in my purse during my stay there. I made darn sure there was no trace of anything in my purse before I got to the airport to come back home. I was even paranoid that something might have got in the lining

They'll probably also ask her to sign and/or read a statement denouncing the USA, which would be no problem for her.

Did Treavor Reed have to make such a statement or sign such a release?

I thought her husband said yesterday that there’s absolutely no no way his wife brought drugs into Russia and that they was planted. What gives?

Looks like a prisner swap is in the works ...which might be why she’s pleading guilty.

Russia, will no doubt leverage this to their self interests. How is one question. The other is what will be public and what will never see the light of day.

I doubt it. This isn’t something I can see modern Russian doing. This is a very straightforward criminal trial. The same would happen to any Russian citizen. Drugs are no joke in Russia.

I mean that we wouldn’t have any we’d want to let go of.

Putin and Biden probably made a deal that if she pleads guilty to something very minor, Putin will accept Ukraine in return for generously letting her go, and Biden will get credit for getting her/him/it back.

I don't understand the question...there are plenty of Russian criminals in US prisons.

She is not some drug kingpin. She had $20 worth of weed oil (0.7 grams).

Russia is doing it because they felt like taking an American hostage and she is perfect for it.

I hope we don't reward Russia for this by exchanging a high net worth terrorist.

Who is dumb enough to try to take anything weed related into Russia?

How do we know that Griner isn’t a willing useful idiot being used by our Deep State to gin up anti-Russian sentiment, especially among blacks....

Russia isn’t a country that makes a big deal about drugs. They’re not Singapore. In fact they are very relaxed about small amounts.

She is being put through all this because she is an American and being a foul mouthed tattooed lesbian a divisive enough figure perfect for the shenanigans Russia wishes to pull.

Well, if this is any indication, she’s doing some time.

Russia sentences American teacher Marc Fogel to 14 years in prison for “large-scale” cannabis smuggling (and this was June of 2022)

Look one post above this one.

I think that might indicate they DO make a big deal about drugs.

(and what they considered ‘large scale’ corresponds to what Griner brought in)
