I looked at the pics at the 'how to' article in more detail - the last two (flower themes) plus the one painted on a pallet are my faves.

The pallet one - sending that to my niece - she does a lot of painting using pallet wood & I think we have a couple pallets in the pole barn - just need to fill in the gaps.

Plenty of PATRIOTS left in this country!

Yep, up thru WWII quilting was still a thing for most country
folks, maybe city but I don’t about them for sure. They would
set up the frame in an area and spend time there. It seems to
me that it was a more winter time event since outside stuff was
limited due to winter weather, etc.

I LOVE this piece ....

Heather, the author, says:
“In going through old papers, I found this—a rare printout from the digital era, a single page that I had written in December of 2011, over ten years ago. Many of the major devices and platforms that we give our time to—iPhone, Facebook, twitter—already existed when I wrote this, but they were still nascent, and it was a different world. Still, while my words here are perhaps a bit dated, they also, I think, have a timelessness worth sharing.”

The trivia of days
https://naturalselections.substack.com/p/triviaofdays?utm_source=%2Fprofile%2F13611183-heather-heying&utm_medium=reader2

A very brief excerpt (read it all!):

Instead we have the ascent of the trivial. Before, the mundane was also the fundamental, and therefore not trivial at all.

Tilling, sowing, harvesting, storing.

Grinding, kneading, shaping, eating.

Consulting, gathering, extracting, healing.

Chopping, carrying, stacking, lighting.

Shearing, carding, spinning, weaving.

And even when it was not strictly fundamental, still it was purposeful. Out of purpose arises emergent qualities; the mundane can produce beauty and meaning.

Whittling, fastening, tinkering, building.

Collecting, drying, grinding, painting.

Wedging, shaping, firing, glazing.

Sitting, talking, remembering, projecting.

Or maybe those things are, indeed, just as fundamental. We are artisans and artists, makers of forms both functional and fanciful. And we are storytellers to our core.

That was terrific! Well said and thoughtful.

People often ask me how I fill my days now that I’m retired, living out in the boonies and alone a good chunk of the time while Beau is off hunting, fishing, hunting, fishing, hunting, fishing and hunting, LOL! (It’s HIS retirement; I knew what I was signing up for.)

Mainly, my days are just ‘treading water’ to keep up with the many, MANY things that need doing around here, just to keep life functional for us and the animals! And, of course, the garden takes up a good chunk of 3/4 of the year (March - October, usually) and then volunteer work/projects, family obligations and other artsy pursuits.

I don’t remember how I had TIME to work, let alone raise kids!

‘Nature never hurries, yet everything is accomplished.’

Great post! Thanks so much! I have 30 minutes to goof off, then on to dog and barn chores. ;)

I had to go to Hobby Lobby for a roll of “It’s A Boy” ribbon I saw the other day. In general, I stop by the “Sale” bin - usually it’s a mess & I don’t see much of anything; HOWEVER, today was different .... made me VERY happy:

1 skein of Yarn Bee ‘Alpaca Twist’ in color ‘silver’, Reg. $4.29, Sale $1.07 (gorgeous yarn - color, slightly fuzzy, 10% alpaca)

2 skeins of Yarn Bee ‘Fireplace Comfort’ in color ‘Veiled Amethyst’ in same lot #, Reg. $8.99, Sale $2.24 (wool content is 30%)

Both yarns are a ‘4 medium’ weight & the yardage per skein is decent (175 & 229).

Savings: about $17 (Happy Dance!!)

I love the yarns at Hobby Lobby! Great score for you! This is sort-of fabric related. This is the score I scored at St. Vinnie's (Thrift Store) earlier this week.

Found the Bella Ruffle Throw that goes with the Blooming Prairie bedding I already have, and love. $45 Retail for the throw, which is full size; I paid $6.00! Score! There was a lady with a La Cruset Dutch Oven in her cart; sorry to have missed THAT one!

I've wanted that throw for-EVER, but I was NOT going to pay $45 for it!

I don’t paint - always wished I could, but not talented in either art or music, for that matter. I have a cousin whose wife was an art teacher & she does some water color paintings - very nice ones. On my facebook feed, I saw a water color painting I really loved and followed the artist - I like just about everything she paints. Here is her website & you can check out her watercolors .....

https://www.susancrouch.com/

She has note cards with her works on them .... might have to do a splurge & buy a set!

Not “fiber”, but definitely “art”!!

The baby booties for the shower tomorrow are done! I wanted to use them as a decoration on the gift bag & of course, they are wearable, too. This is the 2nd pair I've made - used 'sport' weight rather than 'worsted' to get a newborn size. It's ILTY 'Soft Blue', sport weight (light 3). I had a picture in my mind of how I wanted the gift bag/booties to look & I'm happy with the result. BTW, the ribbon tying the booties to the bag is light blue, gauzy, & has "It's A Boy" repeated on it in white - you can't see the detail in the pics.

Now I need to get busy on my scarf for the county fairs - time is beginning to run short!

Beautiful! Those would make a cute ‘Baby’s First Christmas’ ornament once outgrown. :)

All rain, all day, today. We needed it! Plans for the day include working on my afghan for the fair.

My friend and I are working on our fair entries and she sent me a picture of hers last night - I don't think she'd mind if I shared it. It's a pocketbook made out of soda can tabs! She likes doing odd things for fair entries .... keeps the judges on their toes LOL! I do not know where she got this pattern - I 'googled' and pinterest (which I am not on) has a lot of project pics using tabs ... soda can tabs are a "thing" and I didn't know anything about it until she sent me this picture! I really like the colors she used.

A relative, the other day, posted how many days are left ‘til Christmas .... she was excited .... me, not so much.

Buying presents is not an option for me (by choice) - I started making all my Christmas presents back in 2013 or 2014. The last couple of years, I gave homemade canned items (Salsa, Jalapeno Pepper Jelly, Blackberry Merlot Wine Jelly, mason jars packed with ingredients in them for cookies, brownies, etc. ... last year, some homemade Ghee as well). Two of my nieces got presents last year (I dropped a few people - long story) & I am looking for something I can make them that will be useful for this Christmas.

Today, I think I found what I’m going to do. These items are something I need for myself as well. I have plenty of stashed/scrap cotton yarn in attractive colors that would work well, too. So here’s the idea:

Crochet Pan Protectors Pattern (Small, Medium, Large, X-Large)
https://hearthookhome.com/crochet-pan-protectors-pattern-small-medium-large/

Looked around at several patterns for these & this is a very simple one. There may be something I like better after more looking around, but the idea is one I like a lot. I suspect there will be another ‘yard sale’ at church this fall - using up some scrap yarn to make a few sets to sell might also happen.
