Prevalence of Prostate Cancer in High Boron-Exposed Population: A Community-Based Study (6 mg Reduced PSA & Size)
Biological Trace Element Research ^ | March 2011 | Talha Müezzinoğlu et al

We investigated the possible relationship between boron exposure and prostate cancer (PCa) for men living and being employed at boron mines in villages with rich boron minerals. Out of 456 men studied, 159 were from villages with rich boron sources and boron levels in drinking water of >1 mg L(-1) and these men formed the study group, while 63 from villages with rich boron sources and boron levels in drinking water of <1 mg L(-1) were enrolled into control group 1. A further 234 subjects from other villages with no boron mines were considered as control group 2. Prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels could be obtained from a total of 423 men. Urinary boron concentration as an indicator of boron exposure in 63 subjects, prostatic volumes by transrectal ultrasonography in 39 subjects, and prostatic biopsies in 36 subjects were obtained for study and control groups. The daily boron exposure was calculated according to urinary boron levels. Although there was no significant difference among the groups in terms of total PSA levels, the number of subjects with tPSA ≥2.5 and tPSA ≥10.0 ng dL(-1) prostatic volumes in men whose prostates were biopsied (p < 0.012) was significantly lower in the study group as compared with those in the control group 2. These results suggested that high exposure to boron might have an implication within the prostatic cellular processes related to hyperplasia and carcinogenesis, even though we did not find a statistically significant association between PCa and boron exposure.

KEYWORDS: boron; prostate; psa
This very small study attempts to identify a reduction in prostate cancer from 6 mg/day of boron, but cannot, due to the limited number of incidental cancer patients involved. However, the identified groups did show that an intake of 6 mg/day of boron made for quite a small prostate size, meaning few, if any, BPH issues, and the PSA scores were lowest, overall, and had the smallest percentage of PSA scores in the > 2.5 and > 10 categories.

FWIW, I’ve been taking a Life Extension prostate supplement for 15 years (I am 70) which contains, among other things, Boron.

3/4 of the time I do not get up at night to pee. The other 1/4 is only 1 time, 99% of the time.

Can I prove the supplement is responsible for this? No
Will I keep taking the supplement? Bet on it.

Boron has shown to help with joints. I have been taking 10mg of Boron a day in a “Triple” joint formula that both Costco and Sam’s Club sells. For the last five months I have been taking it. It has DEFINATELY helped my shoulder which was abused in my youth. (Baseball, Football, Wiffleball)

I also have good experiences with boron for arthritis, low back pain, and possibly also enlarged prostate (BPH). I’m guessing this is propaganda to get rid of a very effective and cheap natural cure.

LIKE THIS ONE? I take prescription meds for prostate, and they have really cut down my visits to the bathroom. However, I am intrigued about the boron as I also have joint pain.

If you decide to try this supplement, don’t expect anything noticeable for up 6 months. This stuff takes time. I bought a bottle for my brother cuz he gets up a lot, he used it for 30 days and said it doesn’t work and quit taking it.

If you decide to try this supplement, don’t expect anything noticeable for up 6 months.

I take two prescription prostate meds that worked that way. Finasteride is the one that "shrinks" the prostate. That took about a year before I noticed it was working. The other was Alfuzosin. That one helped with urgency, inability to get started, etc.

When I go on errands on Saturday, I will go to several places, like Lowe's, Petsmart, Sam's or Costco and a grocery store. Before the meds kicked in, I would have to hit the men's room of at least two of those stores. Now I don't have to go until I get home hours later. I never go on airplanes any more either.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to say THANK YOU for posting about this supplement. My FIL (dementia, at our home on hospice) has prostate issues and it causes him to withhold urine during the day. The doctor prescribed different meds to try but every one increased his confusion and delirium. This was happening even in the mild stages…

Anyway, we started him on this supplement a month ago, and it has been amazing. Not only does it do as good, if not better, at stopping the urine retention, but we are not seeing the side effects we did with the rx. So glad!
