The family’s four young kids (4, 7, 8 and 11) were playing on the backyard playset and dad was out working on the car when the family’s 3-year-old dog Lady snapped to attention.

How does anybody in Idaho Springs, CO not have a gun....or 3?
I saw that video. That cat saved that little boy.
A Chiauhua pit bull mix.....how does, did...oh never mind!
Obviously.
It was the little kids, afraid for their lives that cried wolf.
Sure did. Hero kitty.
It is stupid in my opinion. Wild animals are smarter than people think, and somehow they share knowledge. Around here the squirrels saunter away and climb up the front side of the tree if you come outside with nothing in your hands. If you come outside with either a firearm, or what looks like one, they run like rockets in a zig-zag pattern and climb the back side of the tree.
They aren't fooled by colorful toy guns, but they run like h.... at the sight of a Glock or a Ruger 10-22.
The mountain lion is smarter than a squirrel. The reason animals stayed away from people in the 1960s and 1970s is that they didn't want to get shot. They knew what happened to their friends, so they stayed away from people.
Another non-politically-correct message brought to you by Yours Truly. The latest in a long line.
“...black bears are now a common sighting...”
Here in SW Pa., I have never seen a black bear in this area. Last one seen in my township was a hundred years ago. Right over the Delaware River, in Nj., there are several in every trashcan. The difference? Hunting, and mixing with pork for sausages.
“They live in an area known to have mountain lions...”
According to the article, they had been living in relative peace for nine years. If there had been a cat attack during that time they wouldn’t be in that peace for so long. It was an unusual occurrence for that area. Kind of like if a plane falls out of the sky. And there’s no way to guess at what might happen and so very rarely does.

We have a farm near Franklin, PA.
Mainly natural gas and Christmas trees now.
But there are black bears all over up there.
Constantly getting blackberries and blueberries. Scratching at the cabin windows at night. Knocking over our chairs. They are a pain in the butt!
Want some?
True.
“God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.””
Rule over... every living creature that moves on the ground.

Good dog
Yes, and guess who was the first to kill an animal after Adam fell? God, who wrapped Adam and Eve in the animals’ skins, a type of the blood of Jesus clothing us with his protection and righteousness.
Because man screwed up, animals have to pay a price, but God says it’s OK. The righteous in Christ accept this while the self-righteous do not which is why we have this “animal rights” (animals before man) thing.
Seen that video. Cat v Dog. Timeless matchup. Always wondered if it was another cat going after the child if the housecat would intervene. I think they’ve got a code or something.
Maybe they couldn’t get firearms.
“Seen that video. Cat v Dog. Timeless matchup”
Smart cat, ambush..chase then back under the car and into the Garage / House? Once the fricking Dog would have got it bearings it would have torn the Cat up, literally. Kitty knew better and the kid survived.
I would have done that. I broke up a vicious dog fight with a water hose - my daughter's large chow mix somehow got out and attacked my large police dog/pit bull mix. They would have torn each other apart.
I blasted them both good, they hated it - and immediately retreated to opposite sides of the yard where we were able to gather up the chow mix and put her back where she belonged.
