The family’s four young kids (4, 7, 8 and 11) were playing on the backyard playset and dad was out working on the car when the family’s 3-year-old dog Lady snapped to attention.

“I heard my husband screaming, ‘Get in the house now’ and my kids crying, ‘Wolf!'” mom Virginia Havens, 37, told Today. “I had a surreal moment where I thought, ‘Am I seeing what I think I’m seeing?'”
"As she watched, their “small but mighty” dog, just 50 pounds, squared off with the giant cat that appeared about five times bigger. After circling each other they started to fight."
Sometimes the smaller dogs are the most fierce. Sad ending, but could have been far worse if not for the brave pup!
That’s my dog’s name.
A cat probably would have held the door open.
A wolf is NOT a cat!
Dad should have had a gun.
Not always. I saw a video of a family cat ram full speed at a mad dog that was trying to drag off a little boy. The dog let go of the boy and ran off no knowing what hit him.
Mom screamed. Dad called 911. When seconds count, the cops are only minutes away.
Poor girl died when she didn’t have to.
OTOH, if dad had discharged a firearm he probably would have been sent to jail and his family kicked out of the housing development.
They shot the wild cat with a bean bag gun? Is it me, or is that absolutely stupid? So the animal can now move on to the next yard full of kids and maybe score a nice big meal? Stunning. Dad should have had a gun - that’s what they’re for. Protecting your family from savages - both the two and four legged variety.

Well, the dog bought some time for the girls to get to safety. That was a blessing.
Bean bad gun??? OMG!!!
We need to stop protecting species that can eat our children and pets.
Dad should have gone out with a shovel, or Mom should have clanged pans together. Instead they left that dog to it’s fate.

Here it is:
Even a blast from a garden hose...
In my area, black bears are now a common sighting. And I’m talking about in not super rural areas.
Coyotes are all over the place and need to be hunted. They kill always.
Alligators from Florida to North Carolina have no natural enemy and their populations are huge and growing .
Mountain lions are back in the mountains here, and hunter cameras have the proof.
As all of these populations grow, expect more attacks as people don’t know how to shoot a weapon.
Yup, that’s the one.
Hero kitty.
***Alligators from Florida to North Carolina***
I remember when alligators were considered an endangered species about fifty years ago due to poaching.
***Mountain lions are back***
I remember when California stopped the legal hunting of Mountain Lions. Now they are back and invading large cities because those who do not raise livestock would be in need of lions.
Also, keep in mind that a wild animal has no backup, no familial support. A domestic critter knows that if they get hurt their family will help them (e.g., vet). It’s not a thought process — Momma critter would do what they could, too.
A wild animal knows, tho, that if they suffer just a small tear they are not hunting for a week. That is starvation. They must be much more careful if confronted.
