EAST HARTFORD, Connecticut – Two teens are dead after they forced their way into a home last week in East Hartford, Connecticut.
Police identified the intruders as 16-year-old Isaiah Jose Lopez of Hartford and 15-year-old Isaiah Miguel Nevarez of Meriden.
According to the Hartford Courant, the two allegedly entered the home and physically attacked the resident who had a handgun and shot them both, police said Friday. The handgun is legally registered to the resident, police said.
Police said both teens were rushed to nearby hospitals where they were pronounced dead.
Police said the teens went into the home and physically attacked the resident, who was armed with a handgun and fired.
The resident suffered minor injuries in the attack. The gun was registered to the resident and he is cooperating with police, officials said.
“As of this time the only weapon recovered on the scene was the homeowners,” said Officer Marc Caruso of the East Hartford Police Department.
Police described the incident as a “targeted home invasion” but are still trying to determine what led up to it.
“It appears as though the homeowner had no knowledge of his attackers,” Caruso said. “We’re looking into several possibilities. The detectives are tracking down leads at this time,” he said.
“We’re treating this as a home invasion type incident where two males came into the home. And it appears to be a case of self-defense at this time, where the homeowner was a legal owner of the firearm,” Caruso said.
Officials told WTNH that they believe the alleged home invasion was targeted, although the circumstances leading up to the incident remained unclear Friday. The gun used in the shooting was registered to the homeowner, who is cooperating with authorities, WTIC reported.
Hartford Public Schools released a statement regarding the teens’ deaths:
On Thursday, June 16, 2022, we were informed of the deaths of two former Hartford Public School students. This is an unfortunate and tragic incident, and we are deeply saddened by the loss of members of our Hartford Public Schools community. We are prepared to provide proper support and resources for students and staff affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts are with our former students’ families, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

Knowing Hartford, these folks families were given citizenship by Uncle Sam in 1917. Largest ethnic group by ancestry in Connecticut is Italian btw - Yankees mostly moved west a long time ago.
Setting up for prosecution: "homeowner kills two defenseless, unarmed children."
That man just saved the government $$millions in future incarceration, welfare and medical costs for two thugs who were destined to become wards of the state, in one form or another.
estupido
Former Dreamers?
"May issue" means that it is within the power of the State to deny a permit.
"Shall issue" means that the State must grant a permit (provided that the explicit requirements on the part of the applicant have been met).
Regards,
question.....do you have to register guns?.....can’t one defend themselves with just a gun, not registered.?
The homeowner was white so they (media) want him prosecuted.
France and Canada both have recent cases that you have no right to self defense in your own home.
"May issue" means the permit issuing authority has discretion to deny a permit to anyone they want to deny a permit.
"Shall issue" means there are objective criteria in the law for permits. If the applicant meets the objective criteria, then the issuing authority must issue the permit.
The NYSR&P v Bruen case makes clear the law must allow law abiding adult citizens to obtain permits.
In fact, very few states require registration. It is a recent development, and registration is probably unconstitutional under the Second Amendment.
If they found the bodies in the house, they didn’t “allegedly enter” the house. They entered the house.
Just goes to show that a Smith and Wesson beats a pair of Isaiahs.
Those are Hispanic names.
“How you say...”stupid” in Spanish.”
estúpido
It doesn't matter if they plotted it at school or at the local MS-13 clubhouse. What does matter is that it increases their criminality by now rising to the level of conspiracy to invade the home, and possibly conspiracy to assault the homeowner.
Of course this charge is seldom brought against criminals of color.
What amazes me about Hartford, as well as Trenton, NJ, is how the squalor goes all the way up to the state capitol - the main industry in the area of Hartford immediately behind the capitol building seems to be opioid distribution - a shame as there is a beautiful park right in front.
There was a similar case featured on Dateline of two kids who were killed by an armed homeowner during an attempted home robbery. But stupidly the homeowner made an audio recording of the incident, which convinced prosecutors that he was lying in wait, having been a burglary victim before. He was convicted of first-degree murder.
Nope - these were not likely border jumpers per my comments up thread - PRs whose families got on a plane anytime over the last several decades. If not, probably Dominicans.
Play stupid games…
This was on the same weekend that a couple was shot dead over an argument about a dog.
Hartford is a jungle.
