Authorities are hoping to solve a poaching case that took place in the remote area of Creede, Colorado, involving a bear.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officials are seeking information about the illegal killing of a bear after a sow aged seven or eight was found in the Rio Grande River in the area of the Mountain Views at River's Edge RV Resort on October 1, 2021. It was determined that the bear had been shot, with a .22-caliber air rifle pellet found in its chest cavity. This is a notably small round that was probably fired from a low-power rifle, making it fairly surprising that the shot was able to take down a bear.
According to CPW, the case has been actively investigated since the bear was found. With the case ongoing, authorities have asked the public for help.
"Willful destruction of a big-game animal is a felony in Colorado and can result in a lifetime suspension of hunting and fishing privileges," said Brent Woodward, CPW’s wildlife manager in the Creede area. "Convictions could result in fines ranging from $750 to $3,000 and jail time, depending on the charge."
“Probably someone shot the bear with a .22 air rifle just to scare the bear off from rummaging through their trash, but the bear eventually succumbed to the wound.”
Infection.
That bear did not bleed out.
Likely a couple of weeks passed from the shot to death.
Best researched Bella Twin and record Grizzly bear story.
When are human youths challenged to make a comparison of the outcomes of the situations that will continue to face them?
2700 fps? Really?
I’d give the person a medal for bravery. Had to be quite close to the bear and had to stand and deliver a single anemic shot, knowing that it would most probably piss the bear off. And, he would be empty and a foot.... Balls.
Aim for the eyes.
It’s a .22 caliber air rifle pellet but I wouldn’t assume it came from an off-the-shelf air rifle. I’d suspect very high pressure from a modified air rifle or something home-built.
Holy crap. Mea culpa here...my rifle is 2700psi not 2700fps and I’ve had it for fourteen years. Remington Summit model RW1K77X
It’ll still punch a hole in the windshield of a 1972 Ford LTD when my 9mm Beretta glances off.
Don’t tell “President” Biden. He said 9mm can blow a man’s lungs completely out of his body. Now he’ll sell a .22 air rifle can destroy a tank.
“I think we are being ignored.”
No, I wasn’t ignoring you. Just my job has a habit of interrupting my FR time!
(-:
I shot a garbage can raiding dog in the arse with a .177 cal pellet rifle when I was a kid. Don’t think it even broke the skin.
“Now he’ll sell a .22 air rifle can destroy a tank.”
A .22 might not destroy a tank but a Mason jar filled with ammonia and tossed onto the ventilation intake will quickly cause a tank crew to bail. Neutralize the crew, let the tank air out, and now you have a nice tank to drive around with.
I always Wanted a Tank,
Tanks!
Hey if you’re going to do this then I recommend Parson’s Ammonia All-Purpose Cleaner, Lemon-scented.
That way after the crew bails you have a lemony-fresh scent instead of the usual piss and BO scent.
“Stranger stuff has happened, Biden “winning” the election being an example..”
How an you say that? Have you already forgotten the hordes of Americans turning out for Biden’s many, many rallies while the few ‘rallies’ Trump bothered to cobble together had almost no turnout?

I claim....fake info....infection probably the cause or struck aorta.
I wonder if the pellet penetrated just far enough to reach a blood vessel, then got carried by the bloodstream? I’ve heard of that happening.
Unlikely, yes. But to be honest, it seems more likely than a pellet gun penetrating the chest cavity deep enough to kill directly.
But, that's how I develop my super powers.
Cool. I’ve never seen a centerfire pistol bullet fail to penetrate windshield glass. Maybe extra thick classic car glass?
I’m finding that hard to believe. I have a Gammo varminter and I’d be hesitant to try to kill anything larger than a racoon with it.
