The surgery, in April, was routine: Gleycy Correia was having her tonsils removed.
Article content But five days later, the former Miss Brazil suffered a hemorrhage and fell into a coma for more than two months.
Now Brazil is mourning her loss. Correia, who was crowned Miss Costa do Sol and Miss United Continents Brazil in 2018, died Monday at 27 of kidney failure. She never recovered consciousness.

I was lucky to avoid having my tonsils removed. But I remember reading picture books in the doctor’s office, saying how much fun it was to have your tonsils removed at the hospital. That after surgery, you get to eat all the ice cream you want!
“Almost 30% of the deaths are mainly related to the hemorrhage secondary to the lesion of the internal carotid artery (ICA) or the external carotid artery (ECA) and its branches”

Perhaps the surgeon wasn’t not watching what he was doing and was distracted by something?
“Ice Cream! We’re gonna eat Ice Cream!”
Those are nice tonsils.
In the vast majority of cases, removal of tonsils is NOT required. MDs push people into it, as they do with the equally unneccessary wisdom teeth removal.
I knew of someone else that happened to in Bogota back in the 80’s.
There was no doctor on duty at the hospital when the guy started bleeding and they couldn’t stop it.
They gave her a Covid jab in her tonsils? WT.....?
I’ll never understand the “selfie” mentality.
Rest in Peace, beautiful young lady.
She would have had to have a vaccination to compete in a pageant or work as a model.
At 19 my aunt had her tonsils out and later that night she bled out with no one knowing because she was swallowing her blood. She died that night.
Many years later I had my tonsils out and started to bleed out in the night. My mom was a OB nurse and had me in a room next to her dept. She came in and saw I was swallowing frequently and demanded to the nurse in charge that the Dr. be called. She refused saying it was nothing and my mom went around her and called the Dr. anyway. He came in to examine me and rushed me to emergency surgery. I just celebrated 75 years and still thank mom for her stubborn persistence that saved my life that night.
An absolute tragedy. It is always a tragedy when a woman this beautiful dies.
Now if she was fat & ugly... fuggetaboutit.
Ugg. Human nature never changes. Just like so many people hate to see cute animals killed and eaten, but ugly animals. Man, bring on the gas chambers. Who cares, they are ugly.
Maybe like my surgeon (?) who also removed my uvula at the same time as my tonsils. (Dr. Clarence Junro Kusunoki, MD—Territory of Hawaii).
Anesthesia was by chloroform in my day.
Maybe not since her pageant win was in 2018 so pre covid.
Sad but true. Most of us (including me) are cynical and shallow beings for 90% of the time.
Hey, I resemble that remark!
“equally unneccessary wisdom teeth removal.”
Why do you say that? I’m 60 and never had my impacted wisdom teeth removed. No problems so far but everyone I know has had theirs out.
because you don't look like her.
Beautiful young woman. May she rest in God’s eternal peace.
