Truck carrying 386 dogs stopped on way to controversial China ‘dog meat festival’

Hundreds of dogs have been rescued from a truck in China that was taking them to be slaughtered at the highly controversial Yulin dog meat “festival”.

Activists said the “truck from hell” was carrying 386 dogs in crampt conditions when it was spotted in Shaanxi city on Sunday and pulled over with the help of the police. Shaanxi is about 800km away from the city of Yulin, where the so-called “festival” of dog meat takes place every year despite efforts to ban it.

Video and photos taken by the activists and released to global animal protection group Humane Society International (HSI) show the moment the truck was intercepted, with distressing scenes of dogs crammed into small wire cages in the sweltering heat.

The truck had a Yulin number plate and upon its interception the driver failed to prove that he had acquired and was transporting the dogs legally, the organisation said in a release.

Activists say the dogs were all distressed and had visible signs of disease and injuries. They were a mixture of breeds and some still had collars on, indicating they could have been stolen pets.

“It was horrifying to see so many dogs in such an appalling state, it was like a truck from hell for these poor animals,” Lin Xiong, one of the activists at the scene, told the Humane Society International, an animal rights organisation that supports the care of dogs rescued from China’s meat trade.

The English used to require that all bull meat sold come from a baited bull.

A good excuse for dogs fighting bulls, I guess.

Don’t know about enzymes. I rather imagine they’re just singeing them to burn off the hair. Same as cleaning a chicken of pin feathers. Either way not my favorite.

Everything about this is ghastly. How incredibly, viciously cruel the chinks are.

386 dogs on a truck.
386 dogs.
Take one down,
Pass it around.
385 dogs on a truck.

If it was pigs, no one would care...

“Taste like chicken!”

No, it doesn’t. I was served some really greasy dumplings once in China at an academic banquet. They were disgusting. I refused to eat more than one. I asked what they were and was told it was dog meat. I drank a lot of watery Chinese beer that but only ate plane rice.

The fact that they have different meat choices is not the problem. It’s slavery, human trafficking, organ harvesting, child labor, genocide…stuff like that.

All of those things are interrelated. There's a reason why so many serial killers have a history of animal abuse.

Lol! But it brings to mind what Castro told the Cubans one time “I will supply a chicken in every pot” in China, Xi will supply a dog in every pot! What is this world coming to?! :) I’m so glad they were released!

I guess no one ever notices the conditions in trailers full of chickens? Or cattle?

I’ve seen lots of videos on WeChat showing chefs’ preparation of dogs in China - at first I thought the meat was roasted duck until the camera panned out to show the dog.

Very disgusting…

Cat in the Kettle

https://youtu.be/wOy2QCssTaI

Did you ever think when you eat Chinese,
It ain’t pork or chicken, but a fat siamese,
Yet the food tastes great, so ya don’t complain,
but that’s not chicken in your chicken chow
mein.
Seems to me I ordered sweet and sour pork,
But Garfield’s on my fork,
He’s purrin here on my fork...

There’s a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon,
The place that I eat everyday at noon,
They can feed you cat and you’ll never know,
Once they wrap it up in dough, boys,
They fry it real crisp in dough.

Chou Lin asked if I wanted more,
As he was dialin up his buddy at the old pet store,
I said not today,
I lost my apettite,
There’s two cats in my belly and they want to fight,
I was suckin on a Rolaid and a Tums or two,
When I swear I heard it mew, boy,
And that is when I knew...

There’s a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon,
I think I gotta stop eating there at noon,
They say that it’s beef or fish or pork,
But it’s purrin there on my fork,
There’s a hairball on my fork.
