Enslaved people were fighting for freedom from slavery, and enslavers were fighting for the freedom to enslave. The enslaved didn't have guns. It took white men with guns willing to lay down their lives for the country to free them.
Maybe if every day Africans had guns they wouldn't have been captured by other Africans and sold into slavery at the muslim slave markets.
