I watched about two minutes of her bullshit and then turned her off. Then I read the comments of the people on YouTube about what she said and wondered what history they believed. These are the people who a pushing America towards armed conflict (civil war).

She’s doing a scholarly talk show circuit as if she’s a series scholar. I may take her book to the bathroom with me, if I’m short on toilet paper. But to these people, she’s a luminary.

Her major problem is that she is viewing the past through today's eyes. The problem with that is that much has changed since the days she has her focus on. For one thing, white men back then were the ones who received the education. However, even with that being the case there will still those of color and female who broke-out of their usual stations in life nonetheless. Reason being that the capable are always going to find a way to overcome the constraints.

If the south had won, a lot of the changes that took place and opened the door for more people of color & women to move forward, would either have never occurred, or would have occurred much later.

If it were just a case that white men just wanted to maintain all of the power, then they could have held on to that power, if that was their true desire. But it obviously wasn't, for white man fought against white man to live up to the ideals the founding fathers had envisioned with all men being created equal in the eyes of the Lord.

Basically this woman is a Marxist eschewing Marxist Theory to create division.

She said Joe Biden is reaching across the aisle and Fox News’ rhetoric releases endorphins like watching pro-wrestling. She said 70% Americans want gun control.

She lost me when she didn’t know the difference between a democracy and a republic.

Zero credibility.

That was the true desire in the South after the Civil War and into the 20th Century. The North got tired of fighting and went along with it.

Her major problem is that she is viewing the past through today's eyes.

I think that's generally true. You weren't going to see the kind of efforts made in the 1860s and after that were made in the 1960s and after. People's minds just weren't in the same place, and the rising idea of Darwinism encouraged the already strong belief that the races were fundamentally different. A century later, Hitler and Holocaust had convinced America that things had to change.

The interview isn't about the Confederacy per se, and the author didn't write the title. It's about her theory that America's ruing class (= old White men) seek to preserve what they regard as their "equality" by creating "inequality" for others. That whenever another rising segment of the population begins to threaten their power base (as happened with the mass immigrations of the Irish & the Chinese, etc, and again with the women's suffrage movement), the old White men invariably find a way to disenfranchise that group.

Which is both a female-centric and American-centric POV because the male of the species is hard-wired to be competitive, whatever his race, whatever his nationality. The men who run China are not White, yet they strive to maintain the position of their group and resist and resent the intrusion of outsiders. The same goes for Indonesia, Chile, Uganda or the Navajo Nation in Arizona.

Women by and large do not share this compulsion. From childhood, they tend to be drawn more to cooperative activities. "Playing house" has no winners and no losers and the end goal is for everyone to feel good about themselves. Left to their own devices, young boys will concoct some sort of competitive activity, the goal of which is to establish their ranking within the group, so everyone knows who he can boss around and who can boss him.

All will struggle to improve their station. Those lacking the drive, the knowledge, the skills, or the abilities will drift to the bottom of the heap. Those who are better equipped will fight their way to the top, and having reached it, fight to remain there.

This penchant tends to create structure and order. The resulting organization is one that can be steered and given direction and purpose. Which is the difference between a civilization that can build nations versus nomadic tribes wandering in the wilderness.

Sure. But what that amounts to is the same. All economics and politics is a zero sum game, and in the ante-Bellum South, it favored whitey and disfavored slaves. Simplistic, BS, sure. But that’s just another example of her zero-sum philosophy, animating a narrative that continues to wreak destruction long after John Brown’s body was lain to molder in the grave.

White men fought against white men to prevent Negroes from moving north. The North, with some but not really very many notable abolitionist exceptions was motivated by a purer kind of racism than the South. In the South there was economic motivation to retain the peculiar institution. In the North there was an interest mainly in the immigrant community to restrict economic competition from Black labor. Those folks did not have much social or political power. Among the wealthier folks with power they cloaked their social disgust at the impoverished and ignorant Blacks they didn’t want anywhere near their wives and daughters with a thin veneer of abolitionist intent. The real intent og both these classes was to keep the Negro as far away as possible. They certainly did not want them fleeing to te north in numbers which is what began to happen.

Alexis de Tocqueville thought that the prejudice against black people was stronger in the free states than in the slave states. Some states (such as Oregon) tried to prevent free blacks from coming to live in their state.

If the Confederate States had not seceded (and then lost the war), slavery probably would have continued much longer than it did in the US.

Well, the Party of slave ownership is in charge of DC, so maybe there’s a point here(?)

They’re ok with what China’s doing to the Uighurs. They’re ok with human trafficking in sex slaves over the Rio Grande. Brandon is from one of the former slave states. So I’d say they are still for slave ownership.
