Covid sufferers who caught the Omicron variant will not be protected from catching it again, according to scientists at Imperial College London.
The investigators say Omicron and its evolutions could explain why Covid cases remain higher than predicted in the UK.
Earlier studies found that past illnesses with Covid provided some immunity against re-infection - but the latest research indicates that is not the case with the Omicron variant, The Telegraph reports.
Prof Danny Altmann from the Imperial College's Department of Immunology and Inflammation, said: 'The message is a little bleak. Omicron and its variants are great at breakthroughs but bad at inducing immunity, thus we get reinfections ad nauseum and a badly depleted workforce.
'Not only can it break through vaccine defences, it looks to leave very few of the hallmarks we'd expect on the immune system.
'It's more stealthy than previous variants and flies under the radar, so the immune system is unable to remember it.'
Researchers have been attempting to understand why people become reinfected with omicron, often soon after recovering from a previous spell of the disease.
Blood samples were collected from UK healthcare workers who were triple-vaccinated and with different infection patterns with Covid in order to understand antibody, T and B cell immunity.
The research uncovered that among those who were triple-vaccinated with no past infection, Omicron provided an immunity boost against earlier variants such as alpha, beta, gamma and the original ancestral strain - but practically none against Omicron itself.

Gee image that, get COVID and no immunity…. Only virus with that feature….. almost if engineered with that feature…..
Oh… like the regular flu?
Ya , they say it but don’t say it ,LOL
yawn
Gee, neither did catching a cold or the flu. Funny that.
Omicron variants is probably just a cold and that is why you catch them over and over as we all have done forever.
Calling everything covid is a bunch of ...well malarkey. Yes that’s it...malarkey.
Or the common cold or flu.
I was at a wedding in England. About 50 people were there. 18 got COVID.None were very sick but tested positive. They all had coughs that lingered for over a week. And near the beginning of the infection they all had a bit of weakness and some chills for a few days, like a cold or mild flu. None felt that they had to stay in bed or were unable to carry on with normal life.
Most of the people had had all the shots. They were in their twenties with some as old as 88. Delta and earlier variants seemed to offer no immunity as they were just as likely to get this COVID. But the lack of delta and all earlier variants suggests that omicron is the best vaccine against early more dangerous forms of COVID. A few people who got omicron say that they had had it before.
And judging by the coughs on the plane ride home. There were many people with COVID flying back to the US. And there was just as much coughing on the way to England as well.
In 2020 there was no defense. New England was smashed, meaning the old folks there. 1000s of Covid dead per day.
It is not a natural virus. It is unnatural, so there is no such thing as natural immunity, but there is recovered immunity after infection and recovery. Like vax, it doesn’t last long.
By the time northern hemisphere winter approaches the population’s immunity will be zero and so will all mitigation procedures like distancing. Lots of reservoirs out there for this winter. Taiwan is experiencing more Covid deaths per day right now than any time the last two years.
Agree, exercise is a VERY KEY component to a healthy lifestyle. Supplements help, but exercise, simple walking 10-15,000 steps a day does wonders. Supplements won’t help couch potatoes much if at all.
Not quite sure what all the flu talk is about. Flu doesn’t kill 450K per year and lower societal life expectancy 1.8 yrs.
These people are either propagandists or total dumbf&(ks (rhetorical).
Neither does catching influenza prevent reinfection.
But it DOES prep the immune system an order of magnitude better than a faux ‘vaccine’ for the next contagion.
No one believes the “experts” anymore.
And the reason WHY they never even considered looking at PureBloods who have had the OMGidcron?
Look to your fake vaccines and the harm they might cause instead of hyping more 'vaccinations.'
Omicron is like a common cold. People are still driving alone wearing masks. The majority of the American people are not who we were led to believe they are.
And Omicron is just like a cold, right? Good thing they just came out with a Vax for it. /s
Thank you for reminding readers that Imperial College of London has zero credibility since Mr. Neil Ferguson published a fictitious Scamdemic model to support illegitimate lockdowns at the request of pharmaceutical korporations who bankrolled him.

The same Neil Ferguson who believed lockdowns are for others, not him, and got caught violating them with a married whore.

It took us about 2 years to reach the fake 1 million mark.
But there is nearly no circulation of the older strains. So if the researchers observe that those who have been vaccinated don't catch older strains, isn't that only because NOBODY is catching the older strains???? It is so bad that they stopped providing monoclonal antibodies to anyone because they said that they were certain that the patient didn't have an older strain and the monoclonals don't work on Omicron.
What I'm hearing is that people who have been triple vaxxed, don't have any immunity from future infections.
Holy smokes.
It doesn’t matter if it gives “Immunity”- what matters is that the next case will be less severe. Omicron is almost 100% survivable as it is. Get it a second time, and likely it’s gonna be a breeze
I got omicron twice after I took paxlovid like a dummy. They called it, “rebound covid”. The second time wasn’t even 1/2 the severity of the first time, and the first time wasn’t all that bad either. (It wasn’t pleasant, but I’ve had much worse flues before)
