A lot of people don’t know this, but in the beginning, Aids was also spreading among heterosexuals in Europe, but not really much in the US. The reason? At least at that time, anal sex between heterosexuals was much more common in Europe than in the US. i.e. It was never really a “gay” disease. It was a “butt sex” disease. But homosexuals participate in that a lot more than heterosexuals do. It’s pretty rough on the body parts used. The anus is not designed for sex. The vagina is.
That being said, one reason it was spreading so much in Africa was because “dry” vaginal sex is also popular there. And that is rough on both parties as well. i.e. blood and tears.
At least, this is the info I’ve been exposed to back in the first couple of decades of the aids thingee.
