… Monkeypox, which causes a rash and fever and is fatal in a very small percentage of cases, isn’t nearly as transmissible as Covid-19. But unlike the novel coronavirus, it spreads easily to and from certain animal populations — rodents in particular.
If the pox currently circulating in the U.S. spreads to rats, hamsters, or gerbils, and becomes endemic in those species, there might be no easy way to contain it. “I do share the other scientists’ concern of containment and the virus becoming endemic in our U.S. rodent population,” sys Stephanie James, the head of a viral testing lab at Regis University in Colorado…
The larger of the current outbreaks began in early May, apparently triggered by a U.K. traveler’s exposure to an infected person or animal in Nigeria. Hitching a ride to Europe, the virus spread quickly through close physical contact. David Heymann, who formerly headed the World Health Organization’s emergencies department, said that men attending raves in Spain and Belgium “amplified” the outbreak — apparently through kissing and rubbing skin.
After that, the virus accompanied travelers on planes heading for countries far and wide. By June 2, the WHO had tallied 780 pox cases in 27 countries. The case count since has swelled to around 1,400. Health officials diagnosed the first U.S case on May 27.
As of Friday, 49 Americans in 16 states plus Washington, D.C. had the pox. The CDC suspects some of those cases are the result of an earlier outbreak that officials didn’t even notice until the later outbreak caused them to go back and take a closer look at some patients’ symptoms. …

Or maybe not long enough.
Those who try to fool “Mother nature” find “her” to be one NASTY M**********r.
Holding a nickel between your knees will “stop the spread.”
Ingest saltpeter if necessary.
All orthopox viruses are easily prevented by vaccination with Smallpox vaccines. The problem is that it is damned near impossible to get a Smallpox vaccination due to fears that bioterrorist could use it to protect themselves from Smallpox while releasing Smallpox as a bioweapon. The entire supply of Smallpox vaccine in the US is controlled by the Department of Defense. The over control of access to the vaccine means that people in Africa who should probably be mass vaccinated, don’t have any supply as well as visitors to Africa. Previous outbreaks of Monkeypox in the US have been linked to imported animals from Africa. The US should require be required to be vaccinated against Monkeypox just as they are required to be vaccinated against Rabies to enter the US.
Straight from the CDC website!
Darwinian law is harsh. Individuals of any species that deviate and do not actively procreate tend to be eliminated.
Smallpox vax leaves a shockingly bad scar. My parents had them, and it’s kinda scary.
Will wait for the commie media to blame Biden’s incompetence for this like they had no issue blaming trump for Covid
Anyone who gives a flying fudge about monkeypox needs to light a J and relax.
Monkeypox? Not quite. Idiocy and blind subservience to the evil zeitgeist of the day? Yes. Utter foolish pigs.
Shock, shock, shock
Watch the monkey get hurt, monkey
Shock, shock, shock
Watch the monkey get hurt, monkey
Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey, hey, hey
Shock the monkey
The old Smallpox vaccines like the one used on me did leave a scar. When I went through a mass vaccination for Rubella at school in the early 1970's the person administering the MMR put the vaccine gun over the spot of my Smallpox scar.
The Smallpox vaccine the US is using against Monkeypox is much gentler. It was developed in the 1960's by German scientists in Turkey. The Vaccinia virus was passed hundreds of times between chicken cell cultures to develop a strain that can't replicate in mammalian cells. It is administered as two injections at least a month apart and does not cause a scar.

“If the pox currently circulating in the U.S. spreads to rats, hamsters, or gerbils,”
Gerbils? Did he say gerbils?
I think the smallpox vaccine is limited to only being effective to the CDC and Vector russian site. The Russians of course cheat and do the worst evil possible.
So we have russian smallpox and fag monkeypox to deal with?
I like my smallpox vax scar. It’s barely noticeable now 50+ years later. I would absolutely encourage my adult children to get one if made available.
The ACAM2000 vaccine will not be used against Monkeypox. It will only be used in case of the release of Smallpox. It is a modernized version of the Dryvax freeze dried vaccine used to eradicate Smallpox in the 1960’s and 70’s. It has the advantage that it can be administered up to several days after exposure to Smallpox to prevent or minimize the effects of Smallpox.
You call that little bitty thing on my left arm “a shockingly bad scar”, dude you haven’t been in the military or worked any thing tougher than an office job have you?
Paper cuts don’t count!
If you are hetero you have no chance of catching it.
The scar is the size of a nickel. Hardly “horrific”.
Most of the girls in my class were given the shot between the toes so the scar would be hidden, but all us boys have a scar on the upper arm
