In landmark ruling, lawmakers declare that a Laguna Beach millionaire must be forced to look at his billionaire neighbor's hideous backyard sculpture every day

Oh sure, you may think that when you have a cool $7 million in the bank, life is all wine and roses. But that's wrong. Rich people do have problems, and the latest high drama out of Laguna Beach (average household income around $216,000) proves it:

Bond King Bill Gross has finally won the turf war against his neighbor over a million dollar art installation at the billionaire's California beachfront home.

After a lengthy legal battle, the former PIMCO CEO and his wife, Amy Gross, have won approval from Laguna Beach lawmakers to keep their $1 million, 10-foot-tall cobalt glass sculpture installed in his backyard.

"Amy and I are relieved we can finally enjoy our art in peace and in full compliance with the City of Laguna Beach," Gross said in a statement to The Post.

Oh yeah sure, Mr. Gross, you'll enjoy the heck out of this thing for many years:

What is that, exactly? It looks like a particularly chaotic rendition of a song in Apple Music Visualizer, like the final spike of the legendary choral crescendo in Bohemian Rhapsody:

I mean...

That looks less like art and more like some awful torture device. Seriously, I don't blame the man for wanting it out of his line of sight. I'd get stress headaches having to look at that over my morning coffee every day.

Still, though...things got pretty weird during the fight.

The Grosses filed a complaint that Towfiq was a "peeping Tom" and that he had cameras directed at them — a situation that made them feel like they were "in prison."

Towfiq filed his own complaint alleging the couple were "bullies" and that they blared loud music — namely the Gilligan's Island theme song on repeat. ...

Both parties filed restraining orders against each other.

I gotta say, after seeing how rich people settle their beefs, I'm over here in my solidly-middle-class, perfectly pleasant neighborhood like:

Seriously though, that sculpture is dumb!

Hand out BB guns to every kid in the neighborhood. Just a matter of time.

Anti-freeze injected hot dogs will solve that problem.

I guess Hunter has moved from painting to sculpture.

No that's funny right there. I don't care who you are.

I agree. As far as modern art goes, relatively, I really like this piece.

hideous it is not. I don’t know what I expected, but worse than that. What surprises me is he spent a million on art that he put outside, in gravel.

A "hideous" sculpture"?

Sorry....I loved it !

Color-wise and theme-wise it's appropriate to the waterfront location.....it's graceful and interesting to look at.

Some folks don't have an artistic bone in their bodies.

You have presented two great ideas!!

The wealthier folks sometimes lose all aspect of dealing with other folks. So many of the wealthier seem to believe money really does solve all things.

Money makes life easier for many and terrible for those who cannot handle it or are hurt by those who relish using their wealth to harm others. Like anything in life moderation is a good thing.....when money is considered....

It is not hideous! Dale Chihuly does fabulous work in blown glass that is often quite large. If you were to see those pieces in person you would notice lots of interesting detail in the glass that doesn’t show up at a distance. While I don’t adore ALL of his work, there is much that is phenomenal!

” Seriously, I don’t blame the man for wanting it out of his line of sight. I’d get stress headaches having to look at that over my morning coffee every day.”

I’d consider facing another direction, as I like to pick my fights carefully.

Isn’t he the guy that bought out Ralph Schmorts Sports Cars on the Antelope Freeway?

Honestly, whatever. It seems innocuous to me. It’s not like the guy had a rusted-out El Camino on cinderblocks...

So, how is that different from dumping trash in your yard and calling it ‘Art’?

Why do you say the millionaire is “spoiled?” Because he’s a millionaire?

No because the poor baby was so offended by a neighbors art work he sued him. I’m sure most home owners have something in their line of sight that they don’t care for but don’t end up making lawyers richer by suing someone.

Yes I agree that sculpture is not in any shape or form offensive. If one is that fussy about neighbors then buy as large acreage property.

We had a new house constructed in Camas, WA in 1999.
The exterior colors offered by builder were so drab, we asked for a color of our choice at additional cost. The builder agreed and asked us to go to Sherwin Williams paint store and pick a color. So we picked this pretty Billabong blue. Guess what? One neighbor in the subdivision complained about the color! So we had to pick another color to be approved by builder. But it was still unique in the subdivision and that was great.

A “millionaire” today is barely upper middle class.
Now one has to be a Billionaire to be classified as rich.
