Oh sure, you may think that when you have a cool $7 million in the bank, life is all wine and roses. But that's wrong. Rich people do have problems, and the latest high drama out of Laguna Beach (average household income around $216,000) proves it:
Bond King Bill Gross has finally won the turf war against his neighbor over a million dollar art installation at the billionaire's California beachfront home.
After a lengthy legal battle, the former PIMCO CEO and his wife, Amy Gross, have won approval from Laguna Beach lawmakers to keep their $1 million, 10-foot-tall cobalt glass sculpture installed in his backyard.
"Amy and I are relieved we can finally enjoy our art in peace and in full compliance with the City of Laguna Beach," Gross said in a statement to The Post.
Oh yeah sure, Mr. Gross, you'll enjoy the heck out of this thing for many years:
What is that, exactly? It looks like a particularly chaotic rendition of a song in Apple Music Visualizer, like the final spike of the legendary choral crescendo in Bohemian Rhapsody:
I mean...
That looks less like art and more like some awful torture device. Seriously, I don't blame the man for wanting it out of his line of sight. I'd get stress headaches having to look at that over my morning coffee every day.
Still, though...things got pretty weird during the fight.
The Grosses filed a complaint that Towfiq was a "peeping Tom" and that he had cameras directed at them — a situation that made them feel like they were "in prison."
Towfiq filed his own complaint alleging the couple were "bullies" and that they blared loud music — namely the Gilligan's Island theme song on repeat. ...
Both parties filed restraining orders against each other.
I gotta say, after seeing how rich people settle their beefs, I'm over here in my solidly-middle-class, perfectly pleasant neighborhood like:
Anyone can see that this represents grasses growing underwater on the sea/lake bed waving in the currents. It should be in the pool area.
I would have taken down the art, and painted a ghetto style mural of George Floyd on the wall, with a small note.
“Thanks neighbor!”
Yeah, that would be a $1 million pellet he’d be shooting off...
Looks cool to me. Love to see it at night, see what they’re doing with the lights.
I’ve seen worse “art”.
His neighbor has a free market solution. He can have a landscaper install, just inside the property line, a “hedgrow” of closely spaced mature tall skinny Italian Cypress. He’ll never see that sculpture anymore.
They paid 1 million FOR THAT????? The “artist” must be laughing his ass off.
I’m guessing that is the neighbor’s house in the background of the photo? I’d be more annoyed by the plain concrete wall blocking the view of the sculpture. And agreed - I wouldn’t pay a million for it (or even $100), but the sculpture looks okay.
I’m guessing that both these neighbors have “issues”.
I’m sure that most Americans, unlike this spoiled millionaire, have more to worry about than their neighbor’s art display like how to afford Joe Birdbrain’s economic disaster and keep gas in their cars and food on their tables.
I think it is cool looking but that’s beside the point. It is his money, his property and his artwork.
Well what constitutes art is in the eye of the beholder. It’s not like this piece is some sort of offensive pornographic display, and it seems whoever filed suit has too much time and money on his hands. Now he has less money. I’m guessing the two just hate each other for other reasons, and the neighbor foolishly chose this as a way of getting back at him for something else.
Some of his work is quite interesting:
Does this guy really think he has it bad????
My meth head neighbor goes to work and puts his German shepherd out before he leaves...rain or shine, below zero or 100 degrees, it doesn’t matter....
And this dog barks..
ALL.... DAY..... LONG...
It’s so bad Mrs Fonebone wants to shoot it...
I am very surprised anybody recognized Bill Gross by name. On the other hand, it is no user than any other 15.00 pice of plastic junk from the Wal-Mart countertop.
Bamboo lines. The neighbor will neverbe able to dig out those roots.
Yep...pellet gun was my 1st thought as well.....my 2nd was they paid a freakin’ million for that???
We’re in the wrong line of work.
SMH
Must be my taste....
The set of art looks very soothing. I’d have probably put up a plexi-glass type of wall to be able to view it from my side.
Looking at each piece and then as a total it really is soothing......
The man could have simply built a wall of sorts on his side of the property line......
My thoughts? If they’ll spend their money on crap like that, it’s no wonder why California is in such trouble. A Million Dollars?
Really? While I would not want it in my backyard it is something I could easily ignore if it was in my neighbors yard. I would say it is borderline stupid and something a “Karen” would do to sue to remove it.
