It was really, really frightening and it was all down to a passenger who carried on eating nuts despite at least two announcements not to.
‘When we boarded the crew asked passengers not to eat peanuts as my daughter has an allergy but as we took off I saw a man around ten rows in front eating nuts.
‘I was worried and asked if we could be moved but there was no availability and the crew asked him to stop eating the nuts but he ignored the requests and carried on.’
While over the Atlantic and three hours short of Gatwick, Poppy suddenly went into anaphylaxis and was saved after Joanna gave her two shots from Epipens she had with her.
The pens contain epinephrine which is a life -saving medication administered when someone suffers a severe allergic reaction.
Frantic cabin crew made an appeal for a ‘doctor onboard’ and a nurse came forward who helped carry stabilise Poppy with an onboard oxygen mask in an emergency medical kit.
Doctors were also alerted via an emergency call centre in Arizona who relayed instructions back to the captain and crew.
Joanna, from Tooting, south London, said: ‘It was so frightening. The pilot declared a medical emergency and at one point they were considering making an emergency landing but in the end he decided to carry on to Gatwick.
Second hand peanuts?
I don’t buy it.
can’t you request a no peanut flight, or at least make the airlines aware that your nut allergy is That bad before you buy the tickets?
You really can’t stop people from buying nuts at the news stand and eating them...i do that myself when i’ve flown.
My niece is a pediatric nurse...next time I talk to her I’ll ask her about peanut allergies. When I was a kid nobody cared about them...everyone ate peanuts (even on planes) without a problem. Why the change?
We have a pandemic of finger pointing.
Why didn’t they TAKE IT AWAY from him???
What? Wasn’t she wearing a mask?
Hold on. My understanding is that even those folks who have severe peanut allergies actually have to ingest the proteins in peanuts to trigger a physical response. If this young lady is collapsing from the mere smell of peanuts, it’s likely a psychosomatic response of someone suffering from severe anxiety.
Buy all the peanuts you want. But there is no natural right to eat them after you’ve been given a good reason not to. Your peanuts can wait. Eat ‘em later. If there is any truth to this story, the passenger should be charged with depraved indifference.
Peanut allergies can be cured. I would suggest anyone who has a peanut allergy or anyone’s kid go on the regiment to cure it. I would not want to go thru life worried about what may happen to me accidently or from the actions of some schmuck.
People need to take care of their own health and not force the rest of us to bend to their conditions.
If the daughter is that allergic, perhaps a plane flight was not a wise option.
It’s as much as a panic attack as anything. My sister has these with asthma. If she smells smoke, she freaks out and hits the inhaler which doesn’t help because it is not an asthma attack
I’m allergic to liberal assholes does that mean that they all have to leave when I get on my plane?
If she is that severely affected, then she needs to take precautions. She shouldn’t be able tl demand that everyone cater to her allergy. I had a friend who was so allergic to eggs that if he went to a reateraunt where they cooked something on a griddle after cooking eggs, and a piece somehow got into his food, he ended up in the hospital. He ahd tk learn to modify his behavior in order to protect gimself, and it didn’t include demanding that everyone change their eating and food preparation habits.
The broader issue is about these allergies seeming more common now than decades ago. Perhaps immune systems are more overactive due to excessive vaccination and new chemicals in everything.
moral: expose your kids to peanuts at any early age and they won’t develop a severe allergy...
Do you know if you go to an allergist, they treat you by conditioning you to tolerate larger and larger amounts of the substance you are allergic to?
Only exception: honey to kids under 3.
bull
Murder weapon...
Peanut breath?
Anyone that sensitive needs to stay the hell away from other people. This entire incident should be on her and her mother.
That girl has no business flying. And it’s her mom’s fault for not feeding her peanut butter sandwiches when she was little. And where the hell was her epipen?
