It was really, really frightening and it was all down to a passenger who carried on eating nuts despite at least two announcements not to.
‘When we boarded the crew asked passengers not to eat peanuts as my daughter has an allergy but as we took off I saw a man around ten rows in front eating nuts.
‘I was worried and asked if we could be moved but there was no availability and the crew asked him to stop eating the nuts but he ignored the requests and carried on.’
While over the Atlantic and three hours short of Gatwick, Poppy suddenly went into anaphylaxis and was saved after Joanna gave her two shots from Epipens she had with her.
The pens contain epinephrine which is a life -saving medication administered when someone suffers a severe allergic reaction.
Frantic cabin crew made an appeal for a ‘doctor onboard’ and a nurse came forward who helped carry stabilise Poppy with an onboard oxygen mask in an emergency medical kit.
Doctors were also alerted via an emergency call centre in Arizona who relayed instructions back to the captain and crew.
Joanna, from Tooting, south London, said: ‘It was so frightening. The pilot declared a medical emergency and at one point they were considering making an emergency landing but in the end he decided to carry on to Gatwick.
What can I say. I eat peanuts all the time. My favorite is peanuts that are salted in the shell. Secondly, I like plain roasted peanuts that I put in a cup with a tablespoon of soy sauce and mix then around. Third, plain peanuts with raisins.
Could the peanut eating passenger be charged with attempted murder?
I do not remember such nut allegeries as a kid back in ancient times—why such the sensitivity nowadays...
A passenger, 10 rows away, opens a small bag of peanuts... and particles reached her? Considering plane ventilation, I’m not buying it.
And shouldn’t she be wearing a mask?? One of the few cases where it would actually work!
If someone is that allergic, it’s on them to find a nut free airline.
Why did we never hear about allergies this severe 50 years ago? I’m guessing something has happened to the diets of pregnant mothers where they’re not ingesting things like milk, peanuts or peanut butter to acclimate their babies to such things. Opinions?
Don’t believe this at all. While at the airport there were many people walking around with peanuts or some item that had peanuts in them. A man who is already eating peanuts ten rows away did not cause the issue with the finale peanuts.
This women had an EpiPen and pills to handle this. Peanuts are everywhere. Peanut oil is everywhere. There would have been peanuts in my computer case. I would have eaten them on the plane. I bet there were 10 people with peanut laden food on the plane. And many more in the airport.
...I saw a man around ten rows in front eating nuts.

That’s over 20 feet away. We’re told planes have excellent passenger air filtration systems, so how would any aroma travel that far. It’s more likely the mother’s hysteria induced a panic attack in the kid.
I mean, maybe it’s hysteria, but is it really THAT IMPORTANT to eat peanuts? Be a little considerate.....
I admit to having an anaphylactic allergy to a different kind of nut but I don’t have the ability to see people eating nuts 10 rows from me on planes. So I’m a goner.
Mr. Peanut eater should be permanently placed on the no-fly list.
How selfish do you have to be to continue eating peanuts when told there is someone with a severe allergy nearby.
That asshole ought to be charged with reckless endangerment at least.
So much for the great airline hepa filter that filter out cold viruses.
Prepare to defend yourself. His life or the daughters.
Not kidding.
