Joanna Jones, 39, was flying to London from Antigua when her 14-year-old daughter Poppy needed oxygen and two EpiPen shots during the nightmare eight-hour flight after suffering a severe reaction to the nuts.
As Poppy's condition worsened, a quick-thinking nurse on board dashed to help - while the captain considered making an emergency landing.
Eventually the pilot landed the plane safely at Gatwick and Poppy was rushed to hospital.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Joanna said: ’It was a nightmare for all of us and I really thought she might die.

Well, just where do peanuts come from?
Jimmy Carter!
And to pile on.
George Washington Carver.
One of the reasons I see for that is the prevalent use of air fresheners and fragrances in almost EVERYTHING.
I think it’s probably a variety of modern influences. Medicine has done some wonderful things, but in terms of diet, exercise, fresh air, many of us just don’t live as well as we used to.
And i'm trying to find in the bill of rights your right to eat peanuts. Can't seem to find it.
No, it isn't. If I want to pretend i'm having a seizure, I can d@mn well pretend to have a seizure. I've known a lot of people who have done exactly this thing. They would put on a big show until they got what they wanted, then suddenly they were miraculously "cured."
Do you know how the Salem Witch trials started? It was three girls pretending to be demonically possessed because of "witches."
These girls would gyrate on the floor while screaming and they would claim it was the influence of a "witch". They would go around as a group, and if they encountered someone they didn't like, they would fall to the ground and start writhing around speaking gibberish and then they would point an accusing finger at the "witch", who was immediately arrested.
This went on for a long time until these girls accused the governors wife of being a witch. That was the end of it.
So your option is to force them to bend to this guy’s inconsideration? Tell me, when two libertarians in a situation both demand their “right” to have things their way, who wins? Who gets their way when they are in conflict?
Sometimes, that’s not an option.
A little common courtesy can go a long way.
The guy eating the peanuts would not have been scarred for life to defer for a few hours. It’s not like someone was asking him to make a life changing sacrifice, for crying out loud.
The problem isn’t the people who have no control over their health issues. It’s the self-righteous, self centered (fill in the blanks) who think the world revolves around them and yet blow a gasket is someone imposes on THEIR “right” to do as they please.
It’s very hypocritical to demand your rights and let them impose on others and yet refuse to allow others the same courtesy.
A little common courtesy would have gone a long way.
And yes, we are our brother’s keeper.
“from my cold, dead hands”
This is exactly what I was thinking, but did not know the accepted name for it. Thanks for that.
I know a guy who was that sensitive.
They did their best to live with it and always carried an emergency first aid kit that contained several Epi-pens and lots of Benadryl.
And he still regularly encountered situations where he had serious reactions from minuscule exposure. He did go for desensitization and it has helped some, but unless and until God heals someone, usually you’re stuck for life.
as I said:
“FR has become chin deep in jerks recently”
“Research from several years ago leaned towards overuse of Tylenol as a result of cautions of not using aspirin for young children.”
Over use of antibiotics has shown to hurt children’s developing immune systems. I know a women who worked in the medical world. Her kids were poping antibiotics for every sniffle. Her kids all grew up with constant ear, eye, nose infections and allergies. Fly ftom NY to CA decades ago and sat next to a pediatrician. We discussed this. She said the parents DEMAND she prescribe something, even though 95% of typical childhood ailments just resolve themselves in a few days.
THANK YOU!
Starting with the parent. The mother put the girl in harm's way, and then insists on everyone else protect her, yet the daughter doesn't wear an N95 mask which would filter out the peanut dust.
Read my other posts on this. The peanut eater was a jerk. People will be jerks. Relying on the kindness of strangers is no way to protect your child.
Gets through the HEPA filter, does it?
Never thought of peanuts as having "dust" unless they are still in the shells or something.
Even so, travel 10 rows somehow? Is there a lot of wind in the cabin when the plane is flying?
I haven't flown commercial in years. Didn't like it much. Feels too trapped to me. Moving through the air in a wobbly noodle just isn't my idea of a good time.
Are you allowed to take an epipen on a commercial flight?
BS.
Allergies are something no one has any control over.
I can absolutely guarantee you that she hates her sensitivity and would gladly be free of it in a heartbeat. Nobody with severe sensitivities wants them or likes them.
They endure them and curse them under their breath.
Asking people to hold off a couple hours on a snack would not have hurt anyone. It’s the height of discourtesy and self-centeredness to demand your way all the time simply because you think you have your “rights”.
Putting off a peanut snack a couple hours is not going to destroy that guy’s life. He was selfish and rude.
I would say "that's a little weird, but whatever."
Yes, the guy was being an @$$hole, but this is a very different thing from charging him with a crime. As someone else pointed out above, the flight crew ordered him to do something, and he should have done it on that basis alone.
Also, the flight crew should have demanded he hand over the bag after the first time they saw he wasn't complying.
I don’t see why not. Diabetics probably travel with insulin.
“And yes, we are our brother’s keeper. “
“He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother...”.
My problem is when they don’t want to be their own keeper.
Why wasn’t this mom putting a surgical mask and latex gloves on her daughter in an extremely high risk environment?
:)
