As Poppy's condition worsened, a quick-thinking nurse on board dashed to help - while the captain considered making an emergency landing.

Eventually the pilot landed the plane safely at Gatwick and Poppy was rushed to hospital.

That looks very interesting. I think the civilized, refined Western diet has a lot to do with it, too.

Wrong. Bleed air/cabin pressurization leaks like the proverbial sieve. Most of the outflow valves are big enough to toss a toddler through.

“It is like Asthma — nearly unknown before 1950 but at epidemic levels by the 1990s. What did our nation do to us that caused this?”

So what vaccines were introduced during that time frame. My kids and grandkids were not given the huge number of vaccines which are standard and none have alergies or asthmas or any of the common modern kiddy deseases.

You’re being ridiculous, and suggesting outrageous extremes to bolster your opinion. (A flight crew isn’t going to ask something like that.)

I have no comment other than to say it is sad that so many kids have allergies today that never existed in the past as such great numbers. I firmly believe this is due to kids not playing outside as toddlers. Their immune systems are simply not exposed to things that helps them build immunities.

I saw a study some years ago which asked the question as to why third world children seem to have much stronger immune systems than do children who live in the USA or other first world countries.

The answer turned out to be exposure to germs and parasites makes the immune system more robust.

Keeping children clean and away from germs does not let their immune system develop properly.

Don't know about others, but I played in the mud and the canals when I was a kid. Cut myself often enough too. So far as I know, I'm not allergic to anything.

And you don’t think that someone with no understanding of allergies might think the same thing when told to put away their peanuts?

If I told someone to stop a certain behavior on a flight because their actions could cause harm or death to someone, you can bet I would have LE

Another air waitress with an overblown sense of self-importance.

Now bring me a fresh beer and some peanuts, scoot.

“Keeping children clean and away from germs does not let their immune system develop properly. “

That’s why the Creator made babies to grab, stick in mouth, grab, stick in mouth. They are continually feeding samples to their developing immune system.

Actually... considering the size disparity between the size of a virus and a dust mote from a peanut... An N95 would have worked as intended.

I totally call BS to this story since peanuts were present on the flight before they flew, while walking through thee airport, etc. They have no proof the guy 10 rows down caused this problem.

Or that it was even a real problem. Spoiled brats that don't get their way often throw little fits to indicate how upset they are that they didn't get their own way.

This may have been a big show. I've known several people over the years who would put on a medical crises show and they only did it to make people do what they wanted. (One would feign a heart attack, another would feign a PTSD attack. You do what they wanted, and suddenly they felt fine. )

Anyone remember Fred Sanford and his perpetual heart attack? Sort of like that.

Listen, I’m not saying the peanut eater isn’t a jerk. I’m saying as a parent, you need to understand people will be selfish jerks, and protect your child without infringing on everyone else.

Once again, a voice of sanity.

Given all of the uncontrollable factors that come up in travel, why are they risking a flight? They may walk by someone snacking on peanuts and have a reaction. Yes, if the other passenger continued to eat given the situation, they may be guilty of manslaughter. OTOH, there may be (seriously) concealed risks that would trigger the same situation. Perhaps a bag left open in an uncleaned seat or magazine pocket. Some derivative product of peanuts someone wouldn’t know would trigger a reaction. Every time they go out is a crapshoot here.

Hard to imagine someone didn’t switch seats here, I’ve even done it for @holes on occasion provided I didn’t sacrifice a preferred window or aisle location.

The oldest person I have met who had a PA was born in 1976, which is almost 10 years before me. He had a co-morbidity with Asthma, which made me feel fortunate. Something really did happen around the late 70s into the 1980s. I personally don’t find the hygiene hypothesis fully convincing.

I had a friend in grade school with severe asthma. He would fake an attack to get out of taking certain tests.

Amazing how much his asthma cleared up once we’d graduated high school.

If someone asks you twice, I think even the stupidest person would get a clue. It’s more likely this guy was a selfish, arrogant jerk than someone with ‘no understanding’.

I hope that the offending passenger “fell” into the fists of his fellow passengers at least a couple dozen times.

One of the real tragedies here is the willingness of people to simply believe a magazine headline as the truth and/or the whole story.

They are convinced of it's correctness to the point that they are already calling for punishment from the transgressor.

I am reminded of George Floyd, where everyone said the officer who knelt on his neck needed to be charged with murder. I remember "Hands up, don't shoot!" lie the media spread about Michael Brown. I remember the George Zimmerman lie, I remember the Kyle Rittenhouse lie, I remember dozens of examples where the media was deliberately sensationalizing a story, or reporting it in a very biased manner.

I find the claim, as reported, dubious. I don't think there is nearly enough information to arrive at a conclusion other than that the passenger was being a jerk.

Did he endanger the girl? I doubt it, but who knows? Maybe.

But that asks the larger question. Why would her mother dare take her anywhere where she might run across the smell of peanuts?

*THAT* is the real irresponsible person.
