For the past several months, a White House-led team of economic specialists has marked each day in the same way: With a painstaking, state-by-state examination of gasoline prices and the intricate market forces pushing them relentlessly upward.
Senior officials and others close to President Joe Biden view those prices as the cost that most directly affects voters’ everyday lives, and therefore their perception of the economy as well. As such, Biden and his top advisers fixate on them with an intensity that some aides describe as obsessive. White House chief of staff Ron Klain has grown particularly absorbed by the issue, checking the average price of a gallon of gas every morning. He’s lamented that it’s the one item everyone knows the cost of because gas station billboards are so ubiquitous throughout the country.
“Could they advertise anything else?” Klain rhetorically, and ruefully, asked one recent visitor.
The White House’s focus on gas prices is bred from two sobering political conclusions top officials have made. The first is that they have little control over the problem. The second is that as prices rise at the pump, so do Democrats’ odds of a midterm wipeout - especially as the average U.S. gallon of gas hits fresh record highs.
“There really isn’t one silver bullet,” said one person familiar with the discussions. “It’s a really difficult issue to message around when you can’t deny the reality.”
In a frantic effort to try to slow gas prices that have risen by a dollar per gallon in just the last three months, Biden aides have internally debated a host of ideas. Led by the National Economic Council, the cross-government team filled with aides from Cabinet agencies like the Department of Energy, State Department and Treasury has weighed endorsing a federal gas tax holiday...

"It's a really difficult issue to message around when you can't deny the reality."Government in a nutshell.
They have looked at all possibilities— except more supply from America.
They have control of the price of gas. They’re in charge of raising it. I hope these Aholes ESAD!
For the elites, there’ll be less traffic on the highways.
Yet, THIS is their FIRST thought, the FIRST thing they try to do. Message around it. Blame it on something else, blame it on the prior President. Blame it on you.
yeah, Gas has doubled. Because we have an idiot for a President who is being puppeted by someone else. And, BTW, it's not just gas that's getting out of control. I go to the supermarket nearly every day now having to look for food deals. I see the INCREASED prices. I see the lack of a lot of items caused by supply chain issues - mainly hampered because of idiot measures like quarantining, vax mandate firings and diversion of resources
Surprise surprise, production went down (as you intended) and prices went up (as you intended). You thought that was a good thing. You were going to force everybody to go get electric cars.
Remember all that? The voters do.
Just gas prices?
LMAO.
I’ve used most of my supply of those stickers. They do come on handy at certain times.
What a novel idea?! And I bet they have never considered it - approve the Keystone Pipeline, open up federal lands to drilling, open Alaska to drilling, cutback on offshore drilling restrictions.
The Biden administration just bragged about our current “transition’ phase. That didn’t appeal to voters. Now they need to hide their agenda again.
We were through some areas in NYS and PA over the weekend that are normally wall to wall people and bumper to bumper traffic over the Memorial Day weekend.
All were deader that a doornail.
“The second is that as prices rise at the pump, so do Democrats’ odds of a midterm wipeout”
The problem with this logic is it ignores the changing demographics of the country towards people who will always vote Democrat no matter how bad things are.
The GOP may have possibly been poised to retake congress but now the Stupid Party is in talks with Democrats to negotiate away our 2nd amendment rights and as a result they might even lose more seats.
We were energy independent.
The situation we have today is the situation that the Biden Administration wants us to have.
I haven’t seen any pumps lately that didn’t have those stickers on them or torn off them.
Yeah, one funny thing is they still deny the reality. I mean, messaging around and denying reality aren;t mutually exclusive. They, the government, do both.
Just an odd statement, “difficult to message around when you can’t deny the reality.” Messaging around is a form of reality denial, yes? Or looked at another way, the preferred option is to deny reality, and when that fails, resort to messaging around.
Just keep lying. Like just say gas and food are less expensive. I’m sure there is some nonsensical comparison that is literally true, that can be trotted out to claim victory.
In 2020, Americans used about 123 billion gallons of motor gasoline—or about 337 million gallons per day. I wonder what the consumption rate is now?
“Could they advertise anything else?” Klain rhetorically, and ruefully, asked one recent visitor.
Who are these people, 12 year olds? People know what the gas price is because they have to get it so often, not because of billboards. No wonder they can't (won't) do anything about them.
Speaking of gasoline consumption, this is an interesting article. subject is pandemic, but some good thoughts here. Gas consumption statistic as a proxy for economic health ...

Paraphrasing obarky:”energy prices will necessarily skyrocket”.
Welcome to Barry’s 3rd term.
In a rare moment of truth the other day, our Clown-in-Chief actually seemed to approve of our "having to 'adjust' to the move away from oil...."
I think they are privately reveling in the fact this is causing more consideration of EVs by consumers. Only, it's become a little problematic for them with Elon trying to take over Twitter now.....
