“I do not wish to live in a communist dictatorship”

Who’s talking Communism, other than the Democrats?

“...but pretending our Putinists aren’t supporters of Russia is simply dishonest.”

I am not pretending and being dishonest about a freaking damn thing, and you can shove your snot down your throat.

There may be a few people in this country that are “Putinists” but they are few and far between.

In my post I merely stated there are people like you out their that think the way you do, that like to smear snot and call people dishonest and Putinists. I read Free Republic fairly often, and have never encountered “Putinists.”

“No, you would need a recent governor of one of those states to on record saying that the failure of the South to secede from the Union was a geopolitical tragedy.”

Still would PROVE he wanted to also bring back slavery. Perhaps there’s no longer a benefit in slavery, but there is still a benefit in not being part of the Neocon-run United States?

If there is NO EVIDENCE of Putin saying that he wants to restore the Soviet Union, then any claims to that effect attributed to him are INVALID. Sorry.

There are already reports that the Russians are preparing to withdraw from Izyum since they lost Kharkiv. The Ukrainians are also planning to re-take Izyum in the very near future
-——————— ———— ———— ————
So how’s that recapture of Izyum working out for ya??
almost as good as Z’s successful evacuation of Mariupol ..
. no worries,, Z gets another chance when Severo falls ..

There is no evidence of Putin saying that he wanted to invade Ukraine. In fact, he said he didn't want to. Then he did it.

“> Please tell us specifically what Putin has done that makes him a war criminal? <

He crossed an international border, and started a “preventative” war. By the way, George W. Bush did the exact same thing with Iraq. George W. Bush is a war criminal, too.”

Okay. It seems pretty apparent you can hang that label on practically every US leader in the past 45 years including Zelensky.
-Carter, sent troops into Iran
-Reagan, invaded Granada
-Bush I, invaded Panama
-Clinton, invaded/bombed Kosovo
-Bush II, invaded Iraq (as you mentioned)
-Bush II, invaded Afghanistan
-Obama & NATO, invaded/bombed Libya
-Obama, invaded/bombed Syria

Do you count the myriad of CIA intrusions/invading of country after country for regime change as war crimes? If not — why not?

And finally, how about Zelensky’s attacks in the Donbas from 2014 on when 14,000 were shelled, shot, and slaughtered (including civilians)? That should be a war crime of major proportions. Right?

How about the Maidan revolution in Ukraine that was promoted/instigated in part by Victoria Nuland, US State Department along with the help of the CIA where protestors were shot and killed by snipers and the country was “regime changed?” Shouldn’t that be a war crime? Sounds like an invasion to me.

Of all the items listed above, no one has been convicted as war criminals. If Putin is a war criminal why are the others not war criminals?

Sounds very much like “selective enforcement!”

Putin sure has plenty of company if that is the standard. I guess you could even extend that to the Russian citizens who overwhelmingly support Putin — or maybe even US citizens for supporting and electing war criminal leaders for 45 years.

Remember. Don’t through stones if you live in a glasshouse.

Your post is a good one. Yes, I believe that Putin is a war criminal. But as you noted, his actions are not that much different from many US presidents.

Bill Clinton once remarked to a friend that his greatest regret was that he wasn’t a “war president”. I guess his intervention in Kosovo wasn’t glorious enough.

It’s a sickness of sorts. Presidents and prime ministers everywhere are driven to become great war leaders. It’s just not enough for them to try to improve conditions in their own countries.

Trump was a shining exception to all that. It is a great loss to the United States and to the world that he was forced out of office.

I don’t know anyone from Russia. You seem to be more familiar than I am.

I guess that in Ukraine they can all be happy putting up their soviet flags and Stephan Bandera bling bling. Diversity is so great!

there is more to this story than the drive by media wants us to know....they have found bio labs in Ukraine....billions of dollars floats thru Ukraine from our govt to the coffers of people such as buyden...

suppose next to your home they wanted to put up a half way house for schizophrenic drug addicts....I'm sure you'd object...

that is similar to what Russia has felt....they didn't want Nato expanding to their front door....

all my opinion.....

They can’t beat Russia but in the meantime we throw billions of fake money in to a conflict that probably got jump started when Biden said he’d hold back a billion dollars if Ukraine didn’t fire a certain prosecutor.

Wag the dog.....

What my 1914 map above shows is that Central Europe's countries and borders appear, disappear and shift constantly, like sandbars.

Do you know what "Ukraine" translates as in Polish, Ukrainian, and Russian?

Borderland. That's why it was called THE Ukraine, that is to say, "The Ukraine" denominated a borderland region, not a sovereign nation, not until 1991 and the breakup of the USSR.

The thing is that the Soviet Union was seen as “unbreakable”. Also, Putin sees the break up of the USSR as illegal and illegitimate.

“That only looks that way to you if you’re just watching Russian propaganda....”

Not hardly. I am not going to play the game of “proving up” one’s bona fides that one is not a Putinista dupe / Russia sympathizer. The fact that Russia does not want direct US military opposition to its invasion does not mean American citizens opposed to a US war in Ukraine are dupes of Russian propaganda or Putinistas b/c they too do not want to be involved in the Ukraine.

The US has a history of with great Americans who see the wisdom of avoiding foreign alliances ... George Washington memorialized this in his farewell address about the dangers of such alliances and foreign entanglements. The US changed with Wilson and WW1, the person whose 1916 campaign slogan was ironically “He kept us out of war.” This belief in keeping US out of foreign wars was so ingrained that FDR did not have an easy time to get US involved in WW2, and despite the victory and global superpower status in WW2, the US rapidly demobilized its military immediately afterwards as a reflection of US not being involved in foreign wars.

One can fast forward to the fall of Afghanistan when after 20 years, it was exposed as nothing more than a federal givernment borrowing and spending trillion dollars with 20 years of lies about the Afghanis’ progress toward self-government and an ability to stand on its own - only to see the Afghani grifters / hucksters with foreign bank accounts leave the country faster than crap through a goose and leaving billions of advanced US weaponry to our enemies. Don’t think for a nano second that Putin did not see how Trojan horse Xiden did not rise to the occasion to protect US interests - advanced military equipment, a US military base / runway, US citizens in Afghanistan. This Xiden is the loser, a fist-clenching, vulgar man of short temper - who tells outright lies about himself (most recently at the US Naval Academy graduation) - who is not up to the mental and physical demands of the job, ... to lead US into a potential war with Russia. Trust him? Not me.

You haven’t convinced me that the principle you espoused is connected to a vital US national interest in Ukraine, nor that Trojan horse Xiden is capable mentally and physically of leading the US in this foreign issue with a high probability of success. As bad as the UN is, he should have used it like HW and W to shape world opinion or give some patina of legitimacy - call it UN anti-Russia “propaganda” tool at worst. You are free to believe whatever you want about me and those with whom you disagree - but at least have some proof.
