Now that I have retired I will never have to use winblows again.
It’s a great feeling.

Sounds like bad DNS caching. Rebooting will fix that or just flush the DNS cache. Also, check your hosts file to make sure that something hasn’t modified it to include the FR domain and an invalid IP address for it.

Just so you know .... using Windows 10 & Firefox & FR is loading just fine. It appears something is going on with your specific computer. Couple of suggestions up thread you can try. Good luck!!

Try a direct link to the IP for FR, you may get a warning screen for the Certificate not being https but it takes me right to FR
45.79.56.181
If that IP works it’s definitely a DNS resolution error

I got one computer where it won’t work on Firefox but is fine on Google. Another it has no problem on any. I don’t know. it’s a weird world.

If you are using Internet Explorer, Microsoft is deprecating it to try to move people to use Edge. Edge and Chrome are essentially the same "under the hood," so if you don't like Edge, don't use Chrome. Try a different browser such as Firefox or another one you might prefer.
Also, whatever browser you are using, be sure to clear your cache periodically.
The large bank I work for has a partnership arrangement with Microsoft. The bank is moving us all to Edge from IE and we have noticed that people still using IE are having issues.

Another thing I didn't think of when responding earlier. Be sure to RESTART your computer. Do not select the SHUT DOWN option. Restart actually is the option that completely stops all Windows processes. Shut down does not because it keeps certain processes running to provide a fast start when you start up your computer and log in to Windows.
If everything else is running on your computer, including your web browser, then it is not a network (IP, DNS, VPN, etc.) issue. It is well to remember that FR is a very old website (about 26 years old) with old code that could potentially conflict with more modern internet features. So, although it is not likely, it also is not impossible that something in your computer setup is conflicting with FR code.
For what it's worth, I'm using Windows 11 on a newish Dell gaming laptop connected to my internet provider's modem via an Ethernet cable. I experience zero problems with this setup. I use Firefox as my web browser.

How do you mean “won’t load”? It’s just a website. Are you getting “you’re not connected to the internet” of “Bad Gateway” message? Do other websites load on the same browser?

I have the same issue. It’s been like that for MONTHS!
So now, I simply PRINT Free Republic each morning.
Works like a charm.
