Harley-Davidson electric bicycle off-shoot Serial 1 introduced its MOSH/CTY and RUSH/CTY models in August, 2021. Serial 1 positioned both bicycles to urban riders and commuters with a 529Wh li-ion battery and a mid-mounted Brose electric motor. The new BASH/MTB electric mountain bike builds on those foundations for a more rugged clientele.

We live in interesting times. The $4000 bike is nice for casual riders, but serious people will need to spend more. Huh.
Harley Davidson has really no choice but to branch out in directions like this. If they stayed true to their decades old business model and make nothing but large road bikes, they would become as irrelevant that’s Chrysler Dodge. A company that hasn’t made a new automobile in decades.
Yeah, 4K is a good chunk of change, but my current carbon fiber trail bike and mt. bike cost almost as much each. Maybe if my legs start to give out in my 60’s or 70’s I’ll get one to help out on the uphills.
‘ a more rugged clientele’ would be those actually using their muscles to go places. Not the button pushing pansies.
It was good to see them finally produce a liquid cooled Sportster this year. It is a modern bike in every sense. Now Indian will need to catch up with it's Scout, whose features are no longer quite up to the competition.
If it weren't for the fact that dopey Joe is killing our nation, these would be the MAGA years of spirited competition amongst the manufacturing brands instead of "How can we cut corners (no pun) just to survive?"
The BASH/MTB features Michelin E-Wild knobby tires and an SR Suntour NCX seat post offering 50mm (2 inches) of travel, but the e-bike goes without front and rear suspension.

Only seat post suspension? More of a gravel bike than a MTB.

Yeah, sometimes you have to peddle.
Yup. An unsuspended bike, even on a blue trail, is not as fun as it sounds. Ask me how I know...
Furthermore, it is hard to understand their target market with this bike. Mountain bikers enjoy fitness as well as the adrenaline rush (much like skiers and snowboarders) and would be embarrassed to ride such a sissy bike. On top of that, this bike doesn't appear to have front suspension (though that might be available).
However, if the target for this bike is the dual-sport or dirt bike market, the price is a disadvantage in that it costs about as much as a Honda CRF300L at $5,399 and the Honda is street legal and handles fine at highway speeds driving to the trails.
My guess is urban and suburban yuppies and crunchies (Portlandia).
I can see the electric bike strapped to RV’s as a cheap substitute for a Towed Vehicle.
Boomers are hitting the road in RV’s in literal droves
I bike daily out at the local state park (MTB the trails and road bike on the paved roads) and have noted that almost ALL the older RVer's have electric bikes attached.
I chat with them when possible and nearly all of those who ride electric bikes say they are in better shape for doing so. It's better to ride with electric assist than to merely sit and watch the beauty of nature.
“We live in interesting times. The $4000 bike is nice for casual riders, but serious people will need to spend more. Huh.”
A few summers ago I was stopped at a stoplight behind a Ford Focus with three bicycles on a bike rack.
They were good looking bikes and I wrote the name down (I cannot remember it now) to research the bike when I got home.
Turns out each bicycle cost $15,000 without tires, wheels and came with a basic ‘grupo’ (gears etc.). I figure each or those bicycles were at least $20,000 each - way more than the car they were attached to.
Don’t have bikes for the exercise ,LOL
How many pedestrians are going to get killed, disabled, or maimed by electric bikes on the sidewalk?
These things are lethal weapons when operated by teenagers.
I have had four close calls in the last two years.
Most recent - almost stepped into a crosswalk in front of an electric bike in the bike lane running the red light at full speed.
Apparently, these things have 20 mph speed governors on them. Still fast enough to kill pedestrians.
