People are free to be strange, unfortunately, and you can’t have a monitor on everyone.

Facebook’s algorithm should have immediately notified their monitors and the company could have called the police. Guess threats to murder other people are not very high up on their censorship priorities.

Because he wasn’t part of Jan. 6th. The government has their priorities.

He wasn’t investigated, because he wasn’t a white Trump supporter. Those are the only “domestic terror threats” that the government is concerned about.

Mental illness is being encouraged today. The woke left sees it as a means to get power over the population. And with every shooting, they can push their agenda ever further, so it’s a win-win situation for them.

I don’t think law enforcement was aware of his cut face. The mother should have been, if he was still living with her.

All these so called Mass murderers...I call them rage murderers....are by sick individuals...who CHOSE a theme and carried it to an extreme.
The problem is....you can't arrest or detain someone until they do something illegal.

Nor would they know of his BB gun shots unless a cop pulled him over for doing it. But I think that was just an observation made by another student, and if no one informed on him and his BB buddy, how would police know to connect any complaints to him?

Having worked in a big city ER...in a *very* blue state...I know something about this.Although it can vary,at least a bit, from state to state the basic problem is that there are strict laws in place everywhere...laws passed in the 70's and 80's...which make it next to impossible to hold a person in a psych hospital against his/her will without a lengthy, complicated, court process.
These laws are a huge factor in such things as the homeless taking control of whole cities and deranged individuals walking the streets instead of being in a locked psych ward.
Blame the "progressives" of the 70s/80s who believed (and still believe) that it's better for a chronic schizophrenic to freeze to death in a doorway (it happened to several of our patients) rather than be confined to a safe, warm facility.

I think it’s easy to have a knee-jerk reaction and support the red-flagging of people who are “mentally ill and dangerous”. But I see two problems with this:
1) As a middle-aged white heterosexual Christian male who voted for Trump and with a stable job and family life, I’m pretty sure I could be flagged as “mentally ill and dangerous” by my neighbors here in MA.
2) Most (by a long shot) professionals in the field of psychology seem to be very woke and very crazy. I think those people (working in schools, in social services, in corporate HR, and in private practice) seem to be manufacturing mental illness by normalizing all sorts of deviance. Funneling “at-risk” people to the professionals seems likely to make things worse.
I support mental hospitals for people who have done bad things and I support ending any and all “gun free zones” so that good citizens can protect themselves and the people around them.

These guys have it backwards. Mental Health “treatment” comes BEFORE acts of insane violence. Maybe eventually someone in charge will get a clue but I doubt it.

I wonder how much his Hispanic ethnicity played into him not being on anyone's radar screen. Remember the Broward County school shooter was labeled a Hispanic eventhough his actual ethnicity was Slavic. He was adopted and that adopted surname was Hispanic. In that county there was a desire to reduce the number of “problem children” of non-white ethnicity reported up to federal & state programs so he and I am sure others were left out of the numbers. Samething might have happened in this incident.

The problem is one of balance.
Sure in retrospect, Salvador was mentally ill. He must have been because he went on to mass murder.
But is there really a definable set of behaviors prior to a mass shooting, where we can say someone needs professional help?
At what point should we refer people to authorities for evaluation? Things the article points out about Salvador...
- Carving his own face (Self mutilation qualifies)
- Shooting at random people with a BB gun. (That qualifies too) But my brother shot me with a BB gun. And while he did have anger issues, he never committed murder. Well one of the neighbor's cats. The cat qualifies. Maybe the BB gun too. Opie Cunningham shot a mother bird but was sorry about it. At what point does animal cruelty count. Burning ants with a magnifying glass. Stepping on bugs? Or is it just pets and larger animals.
- "posted videos to social media documenting domestic fights with his mother as law enforcement was present" this one has several components:
- Drug addicted parent - maybe automatic referrals and periodic follow ups. I have a cousin that was really messed up from an alcoholic mom and a father who didn't spend time with her.
- Domestic fights with parent. Lots of parents/teenagers struggle through the teen rebellion years. Thank God I had good kids, and never had to deal with that. At what point is counseling warranted?
- Posting about your domestic fights on social media. Is that healthier than keeping it all in? I don't know.
- Selfies with bare chest and pout. The article leads with this one. But really? What about everyone's pictures at the lake. What triggers the creep factor?
