Greenies disapprove of carbon and fret about carbon footprints, even though they themselves are carbon-based lifeforms.
Climate-change environmentalists worry that the Earth is too warm. They seem to think they know what the temperature of the planet should be. Those who do not share their certitude about what the correct temperature of the Earth is, call these folks “warmists” or “greenies.”
The big bane of the greenies, their bête noire (excuse my French), is fossil fuels. The greenies are especially vexed by ICE, the internal combustion engine. That’s because ICE vehicles run on fossil fuels, the petroleum products petrol (gasoline) and diesel. That such engines have been used in virtually all vehicles for a century is of no concern to the greenies; ICE vehicles have gotta go, lest the world end in twelve years.
Greenies disapprove of carbon and fret about carbon footprints, even though they themselves are carbon-based lifeforms, one assumes. Fossil fuels consist of hydrocarbons.
The problem with burning hydrocarbons in ICE vehicles, according to the greenies, is the release of carbon into the atmosphere. But ICE vehicles can get around the carbon problem by using the other element in hydrocarbons. Hydrogen is the fuel in a HICE, a hydrogen internal combustion engine. The only exhaust from HICE vehicles is water.
ICE vehicles designed to run on fossil fuel can be retrofitted or adapted to run on hydrogen. This writer first learned of this when a local newspaper reported on Roger E. Billings, who converted a Model A to work on hydrogen. Fuel cells can also use hydrogen to produce power for electric cars.

The measured data doesn’t show warming and it should not be expected to unless the Sun’s output changes. Carbon dioxide is a very weak absorber of infrared radiation, only absorbing three narrow spectral lines. These three spectral lines would be absorbed by water vapor anyway so there is almost no difference in “warming” that CO2 should cause. Measured data shows this. It is only the greenie computer models that show warming.
Ok FULL STOP.
The current levels of CO2 is 450ppm which is close to a geologic nadir. There is no "problem". I will not finish this BS article because the basic supposition and foundational idea of this peioce is flawed.
“Greenies disapprove of carbon and fret about carbon footprints, even though they themselves are carbon-based lifeforms.”
Which is why Gates & company want to depopulate the Earth of carbon-based lifeforms.
Regarding the thread title: “Helping the Greenies Understand Fossil Fuels” is like trying to get a money to understand calculus.
Regarding hydrogen as a ICE fuel, hydrogen did not work out too well in the Hindenburg.
If they really want to stop global warming, they should ban water vapor.
There is indeed no problem.
Hydro- and -carbon are elemental geologic and fully naturally occuring. Under pressure as with the formation of different forms of minerals in rock, hydrocarbons are created. Fossils are NOT involved, except in the myth.
A small but salient point. Fossils are themselves preserved forms in rock in various strata. They are not found as fluid to be extracted. Changing the vocabulary changes everything, as with the game which was once global cooling, then warming and then climate change but oddly still WARMING. The average Joe is swayed by storytelling. Stories then are not only entertainments and lessons, but also cons and weapons.
Without "fossil" in the phrase, fossils fuels, and with "models" being so often wrong, clear-eyed storytelling tells that we find continually more petroleum, a continuing and renewable resource from earth processes. The "fossil fuel" and "climate change" (which changes naturally) are words games for the rubes, that the socialists use to empty people's wallets. For the "greater good."
“there is almost no difference in “warming” that CO2 should cause”
Interesting post. Seems like you know something about the subject.
The Wikipedia entry on greenhouse gases says that water vapor is the major greenhouse gas, but water vapor is not included in the charts they give ranking the various greenhouse gases. That omission is puzzling to me.
They tell me most of the crude is from plankton that dies and dropped to the ocean floor. I saw some mathematician try to calculate if all the plankton and small sea life that ever lived could be transformed COMPLETLEY into crude it does not account for the vast quantities found in the earth’s crust.
I put 2 new V8 hot rods in my garage in the last 2 months - they can kiss my butt 🤪
Retired and driving around for fun
This supports my point that this has been a game of storytelling. The big green ogre of Oz -- rather like the puffer fish and feather displaying pheasant -- seems so pervasive, informed and perceptive. But behind the Wizard's curtain....
...is that which exits cattle along with that dreaded methane....
This is another topic where the only acceptable answer is to FORCE everyone to do their bidding. Whether it’s your car, your weapons or your body, it has been decided by those in charge.
Notice that their answers always involve less personal freedom.
Greenies only need to understand one thing: That climate change policy is about saving the planet the same way CoupFlu policy is about protecting the public health.
Climate change, CoupFlu...
SSDD.
It’s all about control.
That’s an interesting thought. To make a 6 foot layer of oil-bearing shale, how many hundreds of feet of plankton would need to be compressed? When you think of it that way, you realize there has to be something else involved. We are practically floating on hydrocarbons.
Well said. I stopped at the title use of “fossil fuels”.
My reply is that there is plenty of water in the oceans. If some evaporates why does that not cause warming that causes even more evaporation in a runaway cycle that makes the temperature skyrocket? The answer is that almost all of the IR energy from the sun gets absorbed by water vapor so increasing the amount of water vapor, or CO2, does not increase warming because all of the IR energy was being absorbed anyway. The temperature does not continue to climb because there is a feedback cycle. The long wavelength IR radiated from Earth temperature warm sources is not absorbed by water vapor or CO2 and gets radiated by the atmospheric gasses and the Earth's surface back into space. Water vapor does not continue to climb because of rain. Rain storms release the heat that caused evaporation when the water vapor condenses into water droplets and this longer wavelength IR also radiates in all directions so half radiates into space. The temperature reaches equilibrium that is based on the Sun's output energy which is inconvenient for those who want to control energy use (the means of production).
They don’t want to understand. They just want to command.
Our Modern Warm Period hasn't gotten as hot as the Medieval Warm Period, which didn't get as hot as the Roman Warm Period, which didn't get as warm as the Minoan Warm Period, etc. Truly the only difference between the Modern Warm Period and the past few ones are that people in the prior ones were smart enough to realize it's a good time to be alive (high crop yields, more predictable rain patterns, and less plagues during warm periods).
Until there is a proof of concept performed which shows positive results, a project plan to implement, a cost and ROI analysis and a risk and mitigation plan, it’s all BS.
I wonder where and when the idea of —and name for— ‘fossil fuels’ originated ?
Probably places like the La Brea tar pits, where actual dino skeletons were found in the petroleum bubbling up from earth’s oven underneath.
It was faulty science to assign the source of oil to decomposed dinos.
