Horse likes to come from behind
Preakness is 1/16 mi. shorter than KD
Belmont at 1.5 mi. Is longest of the three.
Possibly trainer feels he has better chance in the Belmont. Should Rich Strike take the Belmont, he would perhaps be worth more than if he took both ends of the TC while finishing poorly in Preakness
GMTA....only I can’t type (tap) worth a damn!
lol
Ah... too bad... was hoping he’d pull off a Triple Crown. That late Derby run was one for the ages.
Belmont is a long run, he would probably do better in Preakness
The horse already paid for itself 10 times over with its Derby win. It looks like the horse is a come from behind runner so at 1 3/16’s the horse might not be able to make up ground. But I can’t wait to see what it does in the Belmont Stakes.
Then again, watch the 73 Belmont with Secretariat. That will never be done again.
Belmont is Elmont, Long Island. They probably have a lower crime rate than wherever you are.
ML/NJ
Does anybody here remember BARBARO? I do.
“shattered his leg two weeks later in the Preakness Stakes which ended his racing career and eventually led to his death.”
I’ve never liked horse racing. They are racing babies, two year olds with bones not set, for greed and profit. Even in the eventing/jumping field you are not allowed to compete a horse younger than four years old.
So many T-breds end up in the auction barns if they are lucky, and the “dog” food auction barns if they are not lucky.
Exactly what I just posted above. A good rest before the race they think he could win makes sense too.
In this day and age of ‘anything goes’, why not just substitute with a horse who identifies as “Rich Strike”???
The Derby winner normally enters the Preakness. But apparently the trainer thinks his horse may not recover from the Derby in time for the Preakness.
Also, the Derby is 1 1/4 miles long. The Preakness is a little shorter at 1 1/8 miles (I think). At the 1 1/8 point in the Derby, Rich Strike wasn't even close to the lead.
The Belmont is 1 1/2 mile, so the trainer may think the longer distance in the Belmont favors his horse in that race while the shorter distance of the Preakness is less favorable to his horse. Just a guess.
I didn’t remember Barbaro, but I do remember the all time great filly, Ruffian.
As I recall, it was a match race between Foolish Pleasure and Ruffian with a heartbreaking finish.
I couldn’t watch racing for a long time after that.
Glad to see the owner is putting the horse first. Racing is a crapy greedy azzho sport.
The Preakness is only half a furlong shorter than the Derby.
I beleive it’s a million for each race, but five million for a Triple Crown.
Of course, since tehy started offering teh bonus, only two horses have sone one. Only 13 have ever won it.
I was there.
Especially a horse from “TRANSylvania”!
The Preakness is shorter than the Derby and the Belmont. With the Belmont being the longest.
Yeah I messed that up.
not even close- elmont is right next to Queens. I’m in upper westchester. There’s more crime in elmont in a month than annually where i live
Yes- but its also right near many of the crapholes in Queens (Jamaica, ozone park).
