VIDEO AT LINK........................

A passenger with no flying experience safely landed a light aircraft at an airport in Florida after his pilot fell unconscious, in what has been described as “nothing short of a miracle.”

Remarkable audio from the cockpit showed the man telling air traffic control: “I’ve got a serious situation here. My pilot has gone incoherent and I have no idea how to fly the airplane.”

The man, who has not been identified, was a passenger on a Cessna 208 Caravan and was flying home to Florida from the Bahamas to see his pregnant wife. However, just off the coastline, about 70 miles north of their destination, the pilot suffered what is thought to be a medical emergency.

Facing a potential catastrophe, the passenger made contact with air traffic control, who asked for his position. “I have no idea,” he said. “I can see the coast of Florida in front of me.”

“Try to hold the wings level and see if you can start descending for me, the air traffic controller has heard telling the man. “Push forward on the controls and descend at a very slow rate.

“Try to follow the coast either north or southbound. We’re trying to locate you.”

I believe the “Morgan” being referenced here is the air traffic controller who talked him down safely. The article says the pilot and the man who landed the plane are not named.

“OK. He had never flown a Cessna 208 before but it wasn’t like he was some bloke who had never flown an airplane before.”

Morgan is the air traffic controller who walked the never-flew-before-pilot through the steps to land the aircraft.

Maybe you should have read the whole story.

A couple of things in the story strike me.

The flight was single engine over water. I would hive filed IFR. Even in a twin.

Had the pilot filed, IFR there would not have been the Chinese fire drill to find the aircraft.

I quit fling over 20 years ago due to age, but there was this thing about the air defense zone (ADIZ) which required aircraft to file. And this aircraft also would be equipped with a transponder set to a specific code unless operating VFR.

And not following the rules was frowned upon. One could end up with a very intimidating guy in a fighter off your wingtip.

But I never flew that route so maybe ethe rules have changed.

He has nerves of steel and a Can Do kind of attitude.
Remarkable!
That Air Traffic Controller deserves praise too, he remained calm and clear, using simple instructions. No extra talking.

Imagine if he had to deal with a 15 knot crosswind component in that airplane ...

My uncle managed, with his aviator skillset, to land his Cub in the very top of a 100 foot tree.
He had zero training in climbing down trees.
He nailed his two feet landing safely on the ground.
He had no one in the tower instructing how to de-tree.
It was a miracle.

Something like this happens in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. The pilot (Jim Backus) becomes unconscious and the two goofball passengers successfully land the plane following instructions. (Buddy Hackett was one of them, don't recall who the other one was.)

“Morgan had never flown the Cessna 208 Caravan plane before, WBPF reports, but is an FAA-certified flight instructor with around 1,200 hours of flying time under his belt.”

Kinda changes the narrative.

Not the pilot, the air controller had the experience.
