Multiple embarrassing traffic stops. A credible accusation of insider trading. Photos of him sporting hoop earrings and a bra. A video of a male staffer’s hand near his crotch. Another video showing him jokingly but nakedly humping the upper body of potentially the same man—his cousin. And possibly more to come.
Few in politics have seen anything like the ever-worsening public relations trainwreck that has consumed the political career of Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC). The unrelenting pile-up of damaging stories, insiders say, is the clear handiwork of political players determined to take out the 26-year old MAGA hero in the May 17 primary election.
With a field of hungry Republican primary opponents eyeing the divisive freshman’s seat, the sources of the coordinated stories seem clear: the attacks are coming from inside the house.
“It’s definitely a hit job that I’m happy to be a party to,” a veteran North Carolina operative involved in the race told The Daily Beast.
“Most of the GOP universe has come around to align against this guy,” he added. “You’re seeing a full-court, state-based, establishment pushback against him. Get this guy out. Take him out. We’re gonna see if we can pull it off in eight days.”
A bit of conspiratorial conventional wisdom has taken hold recently among some on both the right and left: that the knives came out for Cawthorn in March after he alleged that unnamed GOP lawmakers were openly sniffing drugs and hosting orgies.
That may have been the last straw for some. But the reality is Cawthorn has spent the last year making enemies, from Capitol Hill to the corner of North Carolina that he represents

Madison is a young man. Perhaps, he has not recovered mentally from the car accident. Can’t blame him. At the same time, can’t make those kind of mistakes in politics.
Yeah, there is definitely a concerted effort by the DNCCP to attack conservatives in Congress.
They tried most recently with Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Matt Gaetz.

I don’t know much about Cawthorn, so I’m going to withhold judgement until I get less biased info.
The Repubs cut and run. Always have and probably always will.
Calling me a RINO does not address the issue. Do you not know that Cawthorn is the epitome of what a RINO is? That’s why the establishment wants to get rid of him. Because he has exposed himself as a typical Republican.
Is Cawthorn himself not directly responsible for all these problems and concerns?
He certainly is. And that’s why RINO’s and social conservatives alike want him gone. Isn’t it funny? The only people who aren’t weighing in on this issue are liberal Democrats. They are more than happy to have someone like Cawthorn around.

I agree. The people who want him gone are not our friends, nor are they the friends of this great Nation.
It isn’t just the left. It’s the anti-Trumpers who are going after him as well. Plenty of Republican slimeballs in Congress like Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell that would target Cawthorn because Trump endorsed him for re-election last year at Mar-a-Lago.
It shows exactly why Washington is the way it is... I have said it for 20 years now. We have good people run for office and they get to Washington and are instantly corrupted (or controlled apparently) All this stuff happened before he was elected, but it was worth more to the deep state as something to control him with after he is in office than to be used against him and beat him at the ballot box. Pretty obvious somebody wants him gone after he talked about the congressional cocaine orgies.
