Mari Oliver had for years refused to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at her Texas high school. Then, in her senior year, her teacher gave the class an assignment.

She and the other students would have to write the pledge.

I hope she invests it wisely. I have a feeling she will continue her foolishness throughout the rest of her life requiring normal people to subsidize her low class standard of living.

You can throw in "unreconstrusted Confederates" as well, and probably a few other groups. Teach sounds like a hoot!

For a high school senior I would have been happy to have such a cushy assignment that sounds more suited to normal 4th graders.

Who among us hasn't had to read and write book reports on books we despised? For me it was "Waiting for Godot", "Rosencrantz and Gildenstern Are Dead" and "The Floating Opera". "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and "The Bell Jar" were merely lame.

That’s so ridiculous.
These same school boards will be begging for a new tax to bring more money to the school district.
‘For the chidren, you know!’
There must be a lot more than what is being reported.
I can’t believe that one incident earned her $90K.

May our nation always be comprised of young men and women eager to face life's most difficult challenges,

and, should they fail in their noble endeavors, let us apologize and give them lots of free money,

just like we does with they parents.

This is settled law—Supreme Court decision back in the early ‘40s IIRC. Involved Jehovah Witnesses I think. While we may share the teacher’s sentiment about the Pledge, students are not required to recite ergo, to write also.

I hope she uses the money wisely and invests in a proper education that will carry her far.
